These seem to be the deers steady diet in the woods I hunt.
There are acorns also, but don't know what these two nuts are, any ideas?

Ones a small dark nut shell, with a nut inside.
The other starts green, then turns brown. Opens like a clove of garlic exposing a light brown shell with the nut inside.

Who knows....

The Garlic looking pieces are the outer coating of the smaller nut (to the right, light color). I have a tree that drops these. Everyone tells me its a Black walnut. I have ate them and they are not bad.

Black walnuts don't have segmented husks. The three common types of Hickories in Mass are Shagbark, Bitternut & Pignut. Pecans are in this family, would be rare to find one growing out in the woods.
