We live in Eastern MA, and I would like to take my daughter camping this summer someplace which has a place where we can do target shooting with our .22 rifles.

Does anyone know of any campgrounds in NH or VT (or ME I guess) which aren't too far away, and would have some place that we can shoot, either on the grounds or nearby? We don't necessarily have to be camping either, if there is a nice inn or something that people like which is has places to shoot nearby. We have stayed at the Lake Morey Resort in VT before, and liked that a lot.

Give a little more info on what you are planning on doing during the rest of the time. (fishing, hiking, boating, etc...)
I know of some places that are pretty much open to the general public in VT.
Where do you intend to go?

I asked this same question on an RV site a couple of months ago and the moderator had to shut the thread down due to the gun grabbers freaking out!!

I'd love to hear what other people have to say about this also. I've wondered about shooting in the woods in NH/VT etc. I'll have to do some research.

hminsky,

email me and I can give you some more details, but there's a nice gravel pit in Ripton, VT with primitive camping about a mile away. I was there last summer with Nickle and my niece; I think it's just what you're looking for!

We're often on our way up to Montreal to visit relatives, so something off to the side of either 91 or 89 would be optimal.

Hiking and fishing are both things we'd like to do, as well as either camping out or staying in a nice place with some character (i.e., not just some generic motel).

Primitive camping, but it's FREE! There is a less primitive site nearby, but with more rules.

The camp site ($) http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/gmfl/green_mountain/recreation_management/camping/moosalamoocamping.htm

The free site is here, it's Sparks Landing. The gravel pit is Spark's Pit (Federal property) http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/gmfl/green_mountain/recreation_management/camping/generalforestcamping.htm

there's the Barre rod and gun club in Barre.

I believe they're not necessarily open to the public, but membership is only like $10-$25.

Not hard to find, once you find it.
