Jose and MassMark nailed it with regard to Savage Arms. I purchased a 26" 10FP in .308 some years ago (std stock), put a good scope on it (scope at wholesale cost twice as much as the rifle did...) and routinely group at sub 1/2" at 100 yds using 168gr SMKs hand loaded into LC Match brass with old faht eyesight, achy joints (shoulders and elbows) and a cranky attitude.
