Well, be jealous all you "southerners", as I heard on the radio that Cabelas decided to forget about the tax issue and build the store in Scarboro, ME anyways! WUHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I will be at the grand opening for sure, probably wearing a t-shirt that reads: The Is What L.L. Bean SHOULD Be!

See you in Maine whenever they get the store done finally...

NOTE: I think L.L. Bean has sold out to the yuppies and has forgotten their roots. I think it may have been a good business decision for them so they could stay profitable in the world, but it still sucks.

Maybe.

At least they still have a hunting catalog with guns (even if they are semi PC over unders).

Look at what Abercrombie & Fitch has become. Yuppie whores. [sad2]

Yeh, Abercrombie and Fitch is a joke now. I was talking to an ol' timer and he remembered walking down the street in NYC to the A&F store to have some gun of his fixed or something. Yuppie whores is right...

I'll agree LL Beans has sold out, it's mostly a pricey clothing store now. Once in a while I'll find a deal on camping gear in the factory store.

I'm not too excited about Cabelas either. Their prices are high and the few times I have dealt with them the products were inaccurately descibed and the customer service was terrible. They lost me as a customer years ago.

CD

That sucks Chris. I've used them for years and haven't had any issues. [thinking] If they do get the store in and it's not too far for you and the wife to day trip, it is worth the trip just to see the store. They are impressive. Not to mention a wild game diner is in each one. [grin]

I think I saw something about Bass Pro Shop building a big store in Foxborough on there site, not sure if it is started yet.

Cabela's is looking at doing a big store in East Hartford, CT also acording to there web site. At lest that is closer to us out here in the west :) .

I work 5 minutes away from where they're supposed to be opening. Now the wild game diner may entice me back to check them out. I didn't know about that, thanks.[grin]

I did not know about the wild game diner either! That rocks! I have to say I have never had a problem with anything from Cabelas, and their prices are certainly better than Kittery Trading Post from what I have found. The selection in their catalog is what is so enticing. I sure hope their retail store will have the same full line selection. LL Bean has never had reloading stuff in my lifetime, and the only handguns they ever had were TC Contenders and that was quite a while ago. Maybe Cabelas going in will spur KTP to be a bit more competitive too. Their newly renovated store is nice by the way (KTP). Just there the other day. I had heard something recently about the CT store, and figured it was either rumor or Cabelas decided to go there instead of Maine because of the sales tax issue. Two Cabelas in the East is better than one though! Wuhoo!

Where is the closest Cabela's from Boston? I want to go check it out and eat some stuff at that diner.

Hartford is a hike for me and unless the Maine one opens up near the Kittery area I doubt I'll make it up there. I was really hoping for one in Mass like Bass pro is doing. Their bulk ammo deals in the catalogs always seemed like a good buy. I know the store probably wouldn't carry them but I heard you can have catalog orders on ammo sent to the retail stores and pick up in person. Bass Pro doesn't have the military ammo types and bulk tins of loose ammo that Cabela's does.

I'm going to guess off the Haigas Parkway, which is right off 95, near Scarboro Downs and the Raceway.

Cabelas won't give the KTP any compitition in the gun department. The only ones Cabela sells are very high end. But in the reloading area and gun accessories it might be nice.

They are slated to build one in NH down in the Hookset area but nothing has been finalized. They are building one a half mile away from my families house in NJ. They started early 06 and won't be done until late 07.

I remember reading a number of years ago that MA law prohibits serving game food. Don't know if it is fact or not (Scriv, quick check Snopes! [laugh] ) but it wouldn't surprise me in this dumb-ass state.

As I recall the controversy was over buffalo-burgers or horsemeat for humans as healthier alternatives to beef. There were numerous news stories and I recall reading that as a reason why it is not available in MA.

I once had whale steak at Yokum's in NH before harvesting of whales was outlawed. Damn good too. It was never on the menu at the Yokum's that was in MA.

Can you name anyone that sells outdoor gear that can touch L.L.Beans guarantee ?? The gear they sell in their hunting, camping and fishing departments can match pretty much anybody for quality IMHO.

Len, I get Buffalo at Stop and Shop all the time. So I can't see that...unless you mean prepared.

And my father has an old Abercrombie Fly Rod... It's pretty nice. It's a shame that it now sucks as bad as it does.

I still like LL Bean. And the fact that they stand behind their clothes 100% no matter what says a lot.

I had two pairs of shorts, wore them for years...but they both wore in the same place. I called LL Bean and they sent me new ones for free...

You can't get that anywhere.

They do the same for their boots...which I've yet to find someone that makes them better.

They have thier "Outdoor" Clinics that are really top notch...

So while many of the Richer folks that would make them look like they "Sold Out." I still think that they have really good clothes, and a customer service department that's top notch.

I just wish that they didn't build one in MA so we wouldn't have to pay sales tax. LOL!

C-pher, as I recall it was a restriction on what can be served in restaurants.

Not at all sure about supermarkets, and not 100% certain what the laws are wrt selling prepared food either. I just recall some BS when health studies proposed alternative foods for restaurants, etc.

Smokey Bones in Randolph has Buffalo Burgers on the menu. [shocked]

Not to mention all the places serving Buffalo Wings! [rofl]

Their guarantee can't be beat, I won't argue that. What I've had problems with is getting replacement parts for the outdoor gear and even some outdoor gear itself. Kayaking, biking and camping. As they've grown their clothing, furniture and houswares depts they've shrunk the sporting goods depts.

I have several friends who work there and they've seen the same thing over the years.

Realistically, if that's where there sales are I can't fault them for following the money. It's just been dissapointing to see the change over the years.

I'm hoping their stock matches their online catalog, especiallly in ammo. Sometimes they have amazing deals on bulk ammo, and not having to pay shipping would be an added bonus.

What's this "sales tax" you speak of??

I'd LOVE to get an old catalog of theirs and plunk it down on the counter. Anyone have any images?
