Can someone explain just what exactly a c&r license is and how it fits within the scope of MA law?

Read it thanks. But I'm still unclear on whether an FID is a prerequisite toa c&r in order to purchase firearms in ma. Or is it once you have a c&r,you can purchase only c&r guns without an fid

A C&R does not change any Mass or local licensing requirements. It does allow you to purchase C&R firearms without an FFL transfer.

No you need an FID or LTC to possess anything in MA. As far as MGLs are concerned the C&R FFL is "non existent", which turns out to be a good thing as we can get (mostly old) guns that aren't on any approved lists with our C&R.
