I'd like to add a 357 Magnum Revolver to my collection. Out of curiosity are there any C&R eligible guns out there in the 5-700ish range that would be good shooters? What should I start looking for? I want to shoot 38 Specials through it as well. [grin]

Any 5 screw S&W is C&R.

For 357 your choices are kinda limited for C&R eligibility.

I'd personally go with the 1917 45acp revolver.

C&R in your price range will not be an option as the early N-frames and Regitered Magnums from S&W will be out of that range. I would suggest picking up a S&W Model 28 (Highway Patrolman), which is a slightly more utilitarian version of the classic Model 27. I have a few of both of them and the only real difference is finish (and price!). You can buy a shooter Model 28 for $400-450 and a nice conditioned example for $550-650. Four Seasons has two pretty nice ones at the moment and I'm pretty sure there were a few in the classifieds here not too long ago.

If you can find a pre Python for under $500, I would definitely grab it. I also didn't realize that Ruger made the Blackhawks that long ago. I learned something today.
