Just curious. If you buy a not-new firearm, file the eFA-10, and it is later determined that it was lost/stolen/used in a crime before you took (supposedly) legal possession, what is your exposure?

Receiving stolen goods? A reasonable man would think if you verified legal LTC status of seller, and did a transfer, you would be just out the cost of the gun....but massprudence.

Am I overthinking this? Obviously, the older the gun, the higher your potential exposure.

a dude posted a while back on here actually, can't remember the specifics. he bought a gun that had an issue, the 5-0 showed up and took it.

You lose the gun and money. Your recourse is sue the person who sold it to you, who may also not have known that it was stolen.

If you did things properly (i.e. bought from dealer or eFA-10 from LTC holder) you won't be charged with any crime.

Your exposure is almost certainly limited to the cost of the firearm, which will be seized. The police aren't likely to bust you for it unless you made it a habit.
