Buyer's remorse?

I have in the past and sold them later. Sometimes I was glad I had the $ to put towards other purchases, others I regreted the sale like my first SKS, a Yugo 59/66 with log book that I sold to fellow NESr JayG. He knows I'd take her back like a used ex-girlfriend though.[laugh]

One reminder and I'm guessing you already know this... if its a gun you're thinking of selling, just post it in the classifieds instead of fishing here.[wink]

A milsurp firearm? No......Ruger Mini. 30 stainless with polymer stock yes...no idea what I was thinking ...sold it for what I paid for it.

Before I had any idea what I was doing I bought a Universal M1 Carbine via Gunbroker. As soon as I saw it for real, I sold it, ick. That was not a milsurp though, just a crappy copy of one.

Oh, yes -

- The Spanish Mauser in .308 from KTP that was dirt cheap. Brought it home and found it was WAY off on headspace. Brought it right back to KTP. Lesson: have them check headspace there before you bring it home - they have the gauges.

- The 1905 Ross with the sporterized stock that I thought I could return to its original configuration - WRONG! The barrel had been shortened. Lesson: do more research before you buy and bring a tape measure to confirm barrel length.

- The Carcano with the ringed barrel (barrel bulge) that I got on GB - of course, it wasn't mentioned in the description. The rifle shot OK, but the ring always bothered me. Lesson: if you have a problem with an auction gun, send it back immediately. Also - keep track of the sellers who screw you.

- The Radom VIS 35 "project gun" that I got for a song. I eventually got all the correct parts back on the gun, but by that time had paid what an all-matching gun in the same shape would have cost. Lesson: beware of "project guns" or "parts guns." There's probably a reason they were never put back together.

Those are the ones that stick with me - probably a few others. Most disappointments happened earlier in my collecting career. I've become a bit more cautious since.

Yes. You reminded me of a 1903 Rock Island that I purchased off GB and discovered it had been D&T'd for a receiver sight, but had been plugged and blued over so it was hidden in the pictures and not mentioned in the description. Other than the D&T, it's a very nice rifle and pretty darn accurate, but I paid WAY too much given the D&T!

Usually, my buyers remorse only lasts until the brown truck pulls up the driveway.

I'm more likely to have "didn't-buy-it" remorse. Watching an auction or item that went cheap because I wasn't online when it ended, even tho it was on my watch list.

Picked up a VKT M39 from the only player really left in the game. Was anxious because I had sent in my C&R application several months ago, but BATF seems to have lost the application. Been itching to get my first M39, and the application snafu kind of set me off, so I went for an antique that didn't require FFL. Barrel and action have 100% blue and bore is damn near perfect, but the wartime stock isn't in the condition I would have wished. Don't really regret the buy, just wish I had a little more patience and held out for the latest batch of rifles to be posted, there were some beauties in that group (but the price seems to creep up every time a new batch is posted.)

I'll try to be more patient when it comes to the Sako, the Tikka, and the B barrel. [smile]

You know, beat up stocks really don't bother me too much. It shows me I have a real "been there, done that" gun that actually did some shooting instead of sitting on the armorer's rack, and it means the stock hasn't been "cleaned" by some knuckleheaded Bubba who wanted his gun to look "purty."

The barrel and action are another story. If the barrel is a sewer pipe, and the receiver looks like it was used and abused - it probably was. I'll pass.

By the way - post pics if you have a chance.

I know who you're talking about and have returned a rifle to them before with no hassles. I ended up with an M39 with the finger joints coming apart and they took it back plus $ towards an better rifle as described on the site. They even paid shipping for the return.

+1 to that. We all make a few mistakes in life. One of my was not popping the $3995 for the Barret bolt action with Night force scope, pelican case and ammo for sale lightly used at Four Seasons.

I can think of only a few serious regrets about guns I've bought. None of the were milsurps.
2 Para Ordnance 1911's, A Jennings .22, and a Hungarian knockoff of a PPK. They were all pieces of crap and I'm glad they're all gone.

My only "regret" was my Mitchell K98k Mauser. With what I spent on it and put into it, I could have had a really nice, honest bolt MM bring back.

My only regrets are the ones I sold or lost in boating accidents.

It is not milsurp related, but this reminds me of the time I took a shot to my left and up at a wood duck while hunting a river in my kayak. I regret taking that shot. I eventually found my shotgun at the bottom of the river, which luckily was only waste deep but very cold. I only take straight foward shots now and have the gun tethered.

That's pretty funny. So long as it wasn't a C&R shotgun, then you're OK!

It was a Benellie Nova so it was all metal and plastic. Since it was sitting on the bottom of the river it got a lot of sand in it. I spend a few hours rinsing, drying, oiling and then reassembling. No harm done to the gun.

Although I was not laughing at the time, I laugh about it now. I wish I had it on video as well, it would make a great illustration of Newton's Third Law of Motion for a physics class.

I would have regrets for shooting at a teeny-weeny wood duck!

[smile]

But no sweat, Basso, for the 'experienced' stock on your M39. Honest military bumps, nicks and scrapes are what can make a surplus rifle breathe history in that muzzle fireball.

And just ribbin' ya Niner. You can call "Fowl!" anytime.

LOL ...yeah they are small but they taste sweet in the fry pan :) One of my favorite post hunting meals is wood duck breast with eggs and home fries. Not to mention there are several prized feathers on a drake for fly tying. My fly tying friends expect a resupply every Fall.

Back to C&R's... I agree with you about worn and rough milsurps. It is nice to have the 100% pristine version from a rarity viewpoint but it is also nice to have the one that has been there in the thick of it all.

Agree completely, this stock has definitely been there, done that, which is what I wanted. Just a few more plugs than I was expecting and a crack that I'll probably glue up at some point.

You should probably glue the crack before shooting to avoid it spreading.

I always have seller's remorse. i think i need to get rid of it because i don't have room in the safe or decide i don't like it at much as I thought. After it is gone, I say WTF what I thinking?

Buyer's remorse? not really and 80% of what i buy is milsurp
