Well, it took 1.5 years to get this built (other things kept putting it off, and off, and off....), but hubby finally got to it and I put the finish on it. My mattress is now OFF the floor!! Yippee!!!

Very nice! Did Ed do the scrollwork on the foot? And is there a canopy that will go on top?

The pics don't do it justice. :D The scroll work was my idea, and no, I got them at Home Depot. He could have done it (he's such a talented little bugger), but I didn't want to wait for it any longer. [lol]

you mean mattresses don't go on the floor?

Um... how do I put this delicately... not after one grows up. The knees eventually do NOT like getting up from low down. they object. Loudly.

For one of our anniversaries,Glenn made the headboard for our bed. He does nice woodworking, but hates to do it. It's in the family genes.
Lynne, that is really nice.

He did do a nice job, didn't he? :D I might also add, there isn't one nail in it. He used dowels to hold it together where it needing holding together. I'm a very lucky lady. :D

Who are you married too? Norm Abram?

No...just someone who wishes he lived back in the 1700's. [lol]

What? No modern firearms in your household?

Get real! [lol]

At the risk of going OT in OT, have you built any guns yet?

I have come close, heavily modifying a 10/22 (new action, barrel, stock, sights, etc.), but have yet to build from scratch.

Not yet. When I get a few extra $$'s, that's on my list. I've been thinking about a 1911.

I think a build-yer-own 1911 sounds like a fabulous project!

Me, too. and Lynne? The best part of it is that you can buy the parts a bit at a time, as you have the $$$.

And on the subject of modern vs medieval firearms...

Many years ago, an aquaintance of mine invited me over to his house to see his collection. Dave was into medieval re-enactment, and had flintlock and wheelock pistols. I met his father and learned that his dad strongly disapproved of Dave's guns.

"If you're gonna get a gun, get something useful like a Colt .45!" he told me. You see, Mr Clapholtz had escaped from Germany about 35-40 years before. I didn't know him well enough to know if he had a tattoo on his forearm, but I did know others with them.

I always remember his advice. Yes, I have my .44 Remington for sentiment... but I have my Para, my Ruger (.45's) and my Smiths (.357's) for serious purposes.

Building the 1911 and buying parts as you go works.

It will also allow you the time to fit some of the parts.

Yes, the frame and slide will have to be fitted. It's a fairly easy enough procedure, just time consuming. Not expensive, either.

When are you holding your class on building a 1911, and where is it being held? :)
