Does anyone know of an online source for the application for a concealed carry permit for Bristol? I've looked through the town's website and done some searches without success. Do I need to pick up a hard copy from the police station?

If they don't have it on the town / PD website, you would be best to get it directly from the PD. Any other you find online could be out of date, and cause you problems with Bristol.

You may also be aware, the Chief in Bristol is being sued regarding his refusal to issue a permit to a resident. I believe it's in Federal court right now, but I don't know the latest.

Yup, that's what I'm thinking also. Looks like I'm taking a trip down to the PD. I'm aware of the lawsuit and I hope it turns out well. I may just hold my application until a decision is made.

Keep us posted.
I'm sure there are others here as well as myself who would like to know how your experience was in simply obtaining the application from them.
Not sure if they even have an app. of their own, they may just point you in the direction of the AG's app online.

Towns love to dodge the work, however, pushing you away from your local PD to the AG moved you from a "shall issue" (in law, if not always in practice) to a "may issue" system. Also, a local permit allows RI residents to bypass the waiting period on purchases; an AG permit does not.

Thanks Rob.
Will be interesting to see what their actual application/process consists of right now, given the suit that is underway.

Yes, all correct points. It's important to "stand your ground" and not let the town refer you to the AG. There is some case law that supports the requirement for the town to have applications and procedures, and to accept applications. It's not air tight, but this is a path that has been pursued in the courts before.
