Breaking News - David Ortiz shot during attempted robbery

I know the flight was paid for by the bosox......I have no issue there.....private money. I do have a problem with tax dollars going toward a police escort that was completely not necessary.

I'm glad I have better things to worry about than whether or not a cop car was used to escort an ambulance to a hospital... with all the fraud and bullshit going on
in this state, is that really a big deal? [laugh] Besides, someone probably paid for it, anyone can buy a police detail. I'm sure the red sox or whoever wouldn't care
about being billed for it, given that the medical flight costs render it noise in comparison.

Indeed. And the escort was probably out of F Troop at Logan, so the net effect was simply that for a short time, folks weren’t being chased out of the terminal drop offs after 1.27 milliseconds ...

Ah yes. I've not been to Logan for a pickup in eons. Back in 00, I picked up my sister and then-BF at the airport from vacation. I arrived about 15 min before the flight landed. Late on a Sunday night. Parked in the pickup area, sat on my trunk and lit a cigar. It was me and 2 SP cops. And the occasional car. Waited 45 min.

I miss those days.

For the most part, he's a national treasure down there, so I get why he feels comfortable and relaxed in his home. However, given his net worth and the relative poverty there, I think it would be best if he moved out.
This.
I mean I get it, that people (some anyways) like to go "home" and settle after making out well in life, etc, but...
I've done ok in my life, thanks to God, good fortune, a good woman, good jobs, etc, and I live in a nice house/nice neighborhood/etc..
But I sure as hell don't go back to where I was raised (the Roxbury/Dorchester line) to hang out (and live) with some of my old "Homeys" or my "posse", my old "crew" etc (many of whom are still there, still on that same barstool, or still hanging out near the liquor store on Columbia Road, etc etc)

Just sayin'

Known to my friends in England as, "The Daily Fail." Well known for making shit up and printing it as fact. Sued most recently by the First Lady, and they settled quickly.

It's about as reliable as Weekly World News.

"At least one outlet — the Daily Mail, citing three sources with Dominican Republic law enforcement — is reporting that Ortiz was shot by gunmen hired by a drug lord who thought Ortiz was having an affair with his wife."

"The New York Post has picked up on this report but at the moment no other outlets are confirming it"

"A representative of Ortiz has said that, contrary to initial reports, this was not a robbery attempt, calling this “an act of hired killers,” but denied that it had anything to do with a woman."

It certainly didn't look like any type of robbery attempt. So maybe this other allegation has a bit of truth tied to it...

Arrest made in Ortiz shooting; police, Ortiz representatives call it an act of a hired gun

If Channel 5 is right, he almost immediately went to an OR at MGH for more surgery. They called it "exploratory", but I'd say the correct term is "revision." Which is where surgeons go in to fix something that was missed or done incorrectly.

His chance of survival went up exponentially by coming to the US.

The MGH is very experienced at handling high profile patients. Not only medically experienced, but experienced at handling PR and keeping people out.

MGH also has a VIP ward which he is most likely in, foreign dignitaries have been there for surgeries he is in good hands now

I would take that moreso to mean he still had internal bleeding and they had to go find the source. I don't think it would be unusual given the degree of injury he suffered and the amount of bleeding.

As far as motive, given that Ortiz is a millionaire celebrity athlete in the DR, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the victim of some sort of extortion scheme given that some of his family still lives there. it's possible that because he's "Big Papi" he didn't take it seriously and this was his warning to "Pay up sucka!"

I am sure that this will get some flak but why does the race papa belongs to seem to settle every thing with a gun? The predominate race that gets shot in Chicago is black. Is the race more violent or is it just the past societal and ethnic norms? I am not trying to make a poor comment, but the media seems to try and cover most crimes race. Why is that?

Ortiz is Hispanic, not black. At least culturally. I knew a few very dark skinned Hispanic guys that got really pissed if someone called them black. If you know any dark skinned Hispanic guys, ask them.

Well F him then. I will lose no sleep over the misery/suffering of a grabber and an outspoken celebrity supporter of illegal immigration.
Ridiculous statements such as this are not helping the cause. People that are not forum members read this stuff and then categorize gun owners as a bunch of hateful nuts. Not caring about someone’s “misery/suffering” because the have a different opinion than yours seems rather narrow minded to say the least.

Any possible reasoning with an anti gun person takes a huge step backwards with attitudes such as this. If someone actually does feel this sort of hate keep it to yourself or your immediate circle. Posting it for all to see is just not cool.

Why’s it ridiculous? Because Big Papi?

Tying this to some attempt to convert antis is hilarious though. Thanks for the laugh.

This. I'll never move back to Connecticut. [rofl]

Here, try this.

Ridiculous statements where you’re lamenting the plight of this pro-illegal immigrant, anti 2A celebrity millionaire are not helping the pro gun, pro liberty causes. Gun owners that are not forum members read this stuff and then categorize NES members as a bunch of pink hat wearing fanboys willing to toss their ideals for historical sports figures. Shedding tears over this guy’s “misery/suffering” seems rather narrow minded to say the least.

Any possible reasoning with a pro-2A person takes a huge step backwards with attitudes such as this. If someone actually does feel this sort of emotion keep it to yourself or your immediate circle. Posting it for all to see is just not cool.

Be careful with that "its just an opinion" thing. The application or use of that statement makes my skin crawl sometimes. It's fine when you're talking about shit
that doesn't really matter, not quite so much with human rights.

I dunno about ortiz's anti stuff (and I'm not going to go there, as I suspect its typical low grade ignorant celeb stuff) but there comes a point where, with some antis, it MIGHT more than simply a "difference of opinion. " Some of these people are actively working to f*** us out of our rights. I'm not saying someone like Ortiz is responsible (because I bet he's mostly hot air about it/ignorant) but say we were talking about Bloomberg here instead of Ortiz. That guy has ACTUALLY DONE STUFF to HARM gun owners and anyone in this country that wants to own a gun. That becomes more than just a "difference of opinion". This ain't like a disagreement about what color the new public school is going to be painted here. I just think people need to be careful with that verbiage, because by using it you can potentially give cover to tyrants without even realizing you're doing it.

The other problem is perspective. To some being an anti is a difference of opinion. To some of us, as far as I'm concerned for example, anyone who is a "mover" in anti
hierarchy, as far as I'm concerned, that person is a piece of garbage no different than a politician who wants to legalize child molestation, as far as I'm concerned the person is morally repugnant on that same kind of level. Antis with power (particularly legislators and political hack types like Bloomberg) ACTUALLY try to do shit that compromises peoples human rights. Those people want to take our shit away and kill us, in case you haven't forgotten.

It is understandable, given that reality, why some folks like new guy are suspicious of antis at any level, because even low level antis they act as useful idiots to people who are actively trying to f*** us over.

Any possible reasoning with an anti gun person takes a huge step backwards with attitudes such as this. If someone actually does feel this sort of hate keep it to yourself or your immediate circle. Posting it for all to see is just not cool.

I think it's not a "good look" but not insofar as worrying about "flipping antis" who are a lost cause anyways. I would be more concerned about how it looks to people I call "wonkies and indifferent. " Being callous to a revered sports figure isn't "friendly" to those people. Then again we have a ton of gun owners everywhere who don't give a shit, and if we can't make them concerned, then what good are we? I think it might be prudent to focus/worry on our "own house" rather than worrying about the minority on the far left. The wonkies/undecideds are the ones that often actually decide things.

Ummm... has anyone ever won an argument on an internet forum? Aren't each of you entitled to your own line of thinking?

If you choose to piss your life away trying to convince someone on a web forum to think differently, well good luck.

Personally I don't care what either of you think when it turns into nonsense like this...

:-(

If this was a hit it will be interesting to see how the guy who ordered it is impacted. That’s a small half-island and Ortiz is apparently one of its most beloved public figures.

I'm still undefeated over the course of my internet arguing career. According to my spreadsheet I'm now 2-0-1,765.
Great record but no argument won here. I am simply pointing out that posting “he deserves misery/suffering” because of different political views to me is childish and inappropriate. I have no interest in arguing, you think he should suffer because of his political views, so be it. I on the other hand believe that when someone is fighting for their life after a brutal attack it’s time to put politics aside.
