Breaking News - David Ortiz shot during attempted robbery

Great record but no argument won here. I am simply pointing out that posting “he deserves misery/suffering” because of different political views to me is childish and inappropriate. I have no interest in arguing, you think he should suffer because of his political views, so be it. I on the other hand believe that when someone is fighting for their life after a brutal attack it’s time to put politics aside.

You’re making that up. I didn’t say he deserves it, I said I’m not losing any sleep over it.

Sorry you don’t deem my post appropriate. I’ll try to do better next time.

For everyone breathlessly keeping track of my opinion about Ortiz, I’ve just now concluded an extensive, multi-minute research effort into Sr. Ortiz’ political activism and have determined that there’s nothing glaring on the first few pages of google results that indicates he’s my ideological enemy. Sure he’s made a few comments about immigration that could go either way, but for the most part he has intentionally (and admirably) avoided political topics. And so I’d like to officially declare that I will be losing sleep over his situation until he fully recovers, or until further research justifies the resumption of my indifference.

Fair enough. To be honest I never knew what his political leanings were, so I give you credit for doing that research. I don’t know if getting shot in the back is going to do much for making him pro gun.

But who knows. Maybe he will decide he needs to protect himself if he ever goes back to the DR, which he probably will. But at the very least with his resources you can bet he will have an ARMED body guard.

Suspected Shooter ... in a truck waiting to be brought to holding cell but they are concerned that the dozen or so people already in holding cell might kill him.
If this was a hit ...

I read one article talking about how he’s made a conscious effort to stay out of politics. He gets credit for that. Hopefully he sticks with it and doesn’t sign up to be the new face of gun control.
I feel that a lot of famous people that stay out of politics actually lean right, but they wouldn't get any sweet Dunkin Donuts commercial deals if they let their opinion known. A lot of immigrants come here and love this country.

Great thread. If David was a gun guy, he'd be laughing with us. . . and at us. . . from his hospital bed. ROFL

If Channel 5 is right, he almost immediately went to an OR at MGH for more surgery. They called it "exploratory", but I'd say the correct term is "revision." Which is where surgeons go in to fix something that was missed or done incorrectly.

His chance of survival went up exponentially by coming to the US.

The MGH is very experienced at handling high profile patients. Not only medically experienced, but experienced at handling PR and keeping people out.

Yah....More like correcting what stellar medicine from a $hole country can't even comprehend. Remember this one when we will talk about socialist healthcare again. Implement it and you will have nowhere to go!

Five people are now under arrestincluding the suspected gunman

Oliver Moisés Mirabal Acosta, who was captured Tuesday night in the town of Mao in the northern Dominican Republic, was driving a grey Hyundai Accent before mounting the bike driven by 25-year-old Eddy Vladimir Feliz García, the document said.

The document also said the two men were seen on security camera footage talking with other people in the Accent and another Hyundai in a nearby street before the shooting at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday.

“In one of the videos it was possible to observe both the accused and the shooter planning the commission of the incident right on Octavio Mejía Ricard Street, which is parallel to the place where the event took place,” prosecutors said.

A total of five people are now under arrest – including the suspected gunman – in the Dominican Republic in connection with the shooting.

Suspects offered $8K for hit on David Ortiz, alleged shooter in custody

A group of crooks were offered $8,000 to kill former Red Sox star David Ortiz in the Dominican Republic — and the alleged gunman is now in custody, local authorities announced Wednesday.

At a press conference, authorities said they’ve now detained five people allegedly involved in the attempted slaying at a Santo Domingo nightclub Sunday, including accused shooter Rolfy Ferreyra Cruz — also known as “Sandy.”

The alleged coordinator of the hit was also among those in custody, and police are still searching for a sixth suspect, authorities said.

Authorities said the hitmen were offered $400,000 Dominican pesos to kill the baseball star — or $7,832 USD.

Almonte declined to offer a motive for the hit.

I would say the shooter and his partner have more to worry about from whoever hired them than the police or courts.
They screwed up and got caught.
Dead men tell no tales.

This is what the local coppers are saying the shooter used. Some sort of BHP or clone, I think?

And... that uniform. Damn.

Not for nuthin', but..
Looks like some sort of "cigarette lighter" we would but at the old Jack's Joke Shop in Downtown Boston and use to "spark up a bowl" of weed or hash.. back in the day.

Just sayin'

From a generally very reliable friend... the wife spends 99% of her time here.

She's got to be aware that he's been a skirt chaser forever. His fame makes that easier. Who knows what arrangement they have?

Me... I'm betting there's no divorce. It's just part of being married to him.

Lol idk what divorce laws are in the Dominican but if they still claim residency in ma that's where his wife will file suit.

The difference between a 1st-world <bleep>hole
and a 3rd-world <bleep>hole is that
in the 3rd-world <bleep>hole,
storing a pistol and matching magazine
in the same clear plastic bag
such that a corner of the magazine
touches a grip panel on the pistol
does not constitute a "loaded weapon".

Advantage: Dominican Republic.

It's the DR. Everyone has an Accent. ;)

Could very well be just the media for whatever reason deciding to run with these stories. Obviously ortiz would have been in the news anyway, but things seem to go into spurts. Pitbull attacks, kids falling out of windows, etc. You have 2 weeks of a seemingly nonstop rash of events and then they stop. I'm guessing they aren't actually stopping, it's just the news moving on to something else.
