The Brady Bunch are gasping for air. Their membership has diminished. Contributions have diminished and they are fighting to stay relevant. They have done nothing of relevance for 15 years or more and people are bored with them. They have no PR people to keep things in the forefront. I expect them to disappear after the 2012 elections are dominated by Republicans.

what!....no mention of the "shoulder thing that goes up"....?

one of these?

Bore is greater than 0.500" - It would be classified as a "cannon" under federal law, except:

It has a stock (the part that mounts to the shoulder) and an over all length less than 26"
It has a stock and a barrel length of less than 16"

However, it does not use an explosive or combustion charge to propel a projectile, so it's not actually a firearm. Law hasn't caught up with technology when it comes to firing megnetically encased super-heated plasma bolts. Yet

# Close the" Gun Show" Loophole: Extend Brady Background Checks to All Gun Purchases - Impractical since you need a FFL ID number to run a background check. Extending NICS to every sale would require allowing anyone at anytime to request a background check on any person. I wonder how the Brady Campaign supporters would like to have everyone able to look into their backgrounds.

# Close the Terror Gap: Prohibit Gun Sales to Suspected Terrorists - Violates U.S. Constitution for lack of Due Process.

# Stop the Sale of Large Capacity Ammunition Magazines (aka Big Bullet-Blasting Boxes) - Virtually useless legislation
# Restore Justice to Gun Violence Victims: Repeal the Gun Industry Legal Protection Act - Only if you apply a "frivalious lawsuit" fine against lawyers who file lawsuits with no backing in law. The act was put in place because the Firearms industry was being bombarded with baseless lawsuits filed by Brady Bill lawyers free of charge. Some lawsuits were filed on the behalf of the dead victims without the knowledge of thier estate.
# Repeal Tiahrt Restrictions on Disclosure of Crime Gun Data - They want this so their lawyers and politicians can start filing wrongful death lawsuits against owners of stolen guns used in crimes. Police have access to Crime Gun Data, all they need is an open case that the data is relevant to.
# Require Licensing of Gun Owners and Registration of Gun Purchases - Not even worth touching. It's all about creating a check list for their "next step" of banning all firearms. They'd also want this list to be public so they could bypass Tiahrt and target gun owners for haressment and lawsuits.
# Strengthen ATF Authority to Regulate Gun Dealers and Crack Down on Corrupt Dealers - ATFE has more than enough authority. They can show up at any time, unannounced and demand a records review.
# Require Gun Owners to Report Lost or Stolen Guns - So we can sue them!
# Improve the National Violent Death Reporting System Date, and restore firearms research funding for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - What in the world does the CDC need to research about firearms? Is there some disease caused by firearms other than an Obsesive Compulsive Disorder to buy more? Or are they studying the spread of communicapable diseases via unsanitised rental firearms?
# Restrict Large-Volume Gun Sales - No problem I can support that. No more than 100 firearms per customer per transaction. If you want to purchase more than 100 firearms, the need to be on seperate transactions. Unless you're a Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer.
# Require Licensed Dealers to Adopt Safeguards to Prevent Gun Thefts - No problem, as soon as you do the same for any item that can cause death or bodily harm. Knives, Baseball Bats, Wrenches, Chain Saws, Cars, Canned Goods.
# Require Licensed Dealers to Perform Background Checks on Employees - How's about we start with "Allow Employers to perform Criminal Background Checks on Employees prior to hiring AND allow them to denigh employment based on the result of the background check. The last time I checked, outside of very specific industries and government this was illegal.
# Prohibit The Transfer of Gun Inventory Without Background Checks After a Dealer's License Has Been Revoked - Once their FFL has been revoked, they're no longer able to process a criminal background check. Is the state going to steal the firearms from the FFL as part of revoking his license?
# Prohibit Gun Possession by People Convicted of Violent Misdemeanors
# Prohibit Gun Possession by Persons Convicted of Violent Acts as Juveniles - It is a violation of federal law to access juvenile records after they have been sealled. But clearly, violation of the law doesn't seem to be a concern to the Brady Campaign.
# Repeal the 24-hour Brady Record Destruction Requirement - Provision was the only way the law passed in the first place. This ammendment was added to ensure background checks could not be used to create a national gun registry.
# Support new technologies to help law enforcement more effectively trace crime guns and supporting development of safety features to childproof guns - This goal I have no problem with. The Brady Campaign can spend it's money how ever it likes. If it chooses to do so by funding research into improved firearms tracing techniques and safety devices, I have no problem with that. Government should not be supporting such research or instituting laws requiring such technology until it can be proven to increase the cost of firearms less than 5% or the cost of ammunition less than 2% AND pose no reduction in the effective use of the firearm for self-defense, sporting and hunting purposes.

Aliens: Permit required to possess/carry handguns, rifles, and shotguns. Apply to the Department of Public Safety.

But its none of the above because it lacks the required mechanism (explosive or combustive force used to propel a projectile) to be defined as a firearm.
