I am very new to the world of shooting and firearms, and so I have been looking into reading up on the subject.

Any recommendations for books that I should begin with?

Many thanks.

In my opinion, the three "Must Have" for your book case are:

"The Truth about Self Protection" by Massad Ayoob

"The Art of the Rifle" by Jeff Cooper

"Unintended Consequences" by John Ross

#1 is a superb primer on the subject of self-defense and deals a lot with the choice ans use of arms in that context. It does NOT replace instructed range time, but it is a great way to get started.

#2 is a great into to rifle shooting. Again, it does not replace Range time, but will get you thinking in the right direction.

#3 is fiction, but there is a tremendous amount of history and discussion of the "Gun Culture" as well as a good chronicle of the political climate in the United States over the last two generations. The bulk of the story really gives you a great understanding as to where we are now. The ending is one possible scenario of where the future may have in store.

Beyond those, it really depends on what you are interested in. But, in my opinion, those are pretty universal in that they bring concepts that just about anyone can both enjoy and find useful.
