Would this be legal to buy in MA? Can you switch to a semi upper afterwards since it wasn’t owned on 8/1?

I think they give you one of these post-op.

Doesn't that just turn the assault weapon into a sniper rifle?

Good Lord, just buy a 8/1 Anderson lower from somebody and build a real AR.

People at the Mill on 8/1 were buying them by the dozen.

I'm sure you can find one for a premium and not have to worry about all this post 8/1 legalities.

A bolt action rifle cannot be considered an assault style firearm. There is also the Kali Key which accomplishes something similar but did not originate with a manufacturer, unless you have an 07 build out a rifle for you and get it transferred as such.

No. The lower is the assault style firearm under the new law. Anything with a milspec AR lower is not g2g.

Not really, a lower can be an assault style firearm by itself. But if it is part of a whole weapon that is manually operated, it is not an assault weapon.

” (g) “Assault-style firearm” shall not include any: (i) firearm that is operated by manual bolt, pump, lever or slide action; “

The part about being initially manufactured or configured a certain way only deals with copy/duplicate status for detachable mags. The part I quoted supersedes the copy/duplicate status.

Personally though, this is the only bolt action AR I’d want. In 300blk with a silencer. Not to get around an unconstitutional law:

I was asking for a friend as a way of getting around the ban, but it seems putting a semi upper on it wouldn’t fly. If I was going for a bolt action, I’d get a Tikka with a nice chassis.

That's what I was thinking. Package the lower with a bolt upper and its 100% legal post - everything.

For what it's worth, people have made straight pull bolt ARs by doing nothing more than using an adjustable gas block, closing it, and not installing a gas tube. Instant AR bolt gun.

So keep one of these bolt uppers per AR you got and before the po-po comes to inspect your gun storage safety compliance, make sure the semi uppers are off and these are on em?

You would pay $2K and go through the mental gymanstics rather than pay for an overpriced receiver that is already in MA and semi auto?

I am not in favor of supporting people charging stupid prices for a receiver, but in this case you might as well do that and can build a proper rifle for under $2K.

I haven't said this in a long time ... Reptile made a good point.

It’s not for me. I already have everything I want.

Also, I don’t do cheap, nothing under $2k.

Is there any real downside to selling through a dealer other than the $30 fee??

I didn't know F2F went away with the new law.

Dealers cannot transfer just the receiver, they’re not on any of the approved rosters, and the current exemption only applies to rifles/shotguns.

Oh shoot.

Until you get red flagged. But then you likely don’t have time to do anything but bend over.
.

That's not what he described. He described a "compliance inspection" to make sure things were stored legally. Not even a MA gun hater would support that kind of thing.

If your looking for a bolt action get a rifle designed to shoot a bolt action round or man the fk up and build a real AR

I dont think he wants a bolt action. I think the OP is trying to get around the new law.

There are complete rifles on sale for less than this thing costs.

Example: WTS - Brand New AERO PRECISION rifle 556 NATO - $1600

No need for the gymanstics.
Fair enough, I should have realized the terrified of the man part of it.

I won't judge on that I guess, everyone here is capable of big boy decisions or not
