Cats hate snakes and they don't care.

When I was a kid, a neighbor moved away and left a calico cat behind. She moved over to our yard, and then we had several generations of cats, including more calicos.

This was Arkansas, and more than once I stepped out and saw the "Circle of Cats", which meant 5-9 momma cats staring intently at a copperhead snake that they intended to kill. We didn't want them to get bit, so I would get the hoe and do my job.
