i am assembling a backpacking/bug out bag and am looking into gun cleaning kits. depending on the situation, i dont know which gun i would have on me. it could be: .38 revo, .40 glock, AR15, 12ga, bolt .22. (all some or none) so i want a compact kit that can service most or all guns. i ran across this...

what do you guys use for this purpose? this one seems great...good price, covers all my calibers and its compact

I'm a fan of the boresnake I keep one and a small tube of gun oil with each gun.
For all around caliber kit that looks good to me.

Just bug out with an AK and never clean it [wink]

+1 to Gonzo's advice though. Flexible is nice and compact, but sometimes there is no substitute for a rod.

i have the same kit. as gonzo said, get another with some rods and you'll be gee 2 gee. the kit works well btw. and the brushes will attach to "most" other cleaning kits. i think one of my cleaning kits is a Hoppes 9 one and they integrated well.

You can also use some heavy duty nylon cord in place of the rods and the "boresnake".

I got mine from a landscaper. It is small enough to fit in a .177 cal (pellet gun), .22, etc., yet strong enough it can do the job (at least pushing a patch with solvent) on the larger bores. I don't know if it would be as sturdy as a rod for pushing out a stuck case, but it is pretty decent. It also rolls up nicely and is flexible. If you put a kink in one of those rods, you're outta luck.

If you fail to extract a stuck case you're out of the fight.

I have 2 boresnakes (a .45 and a 5.56), the stock military M16 cleaning kit, pipecleaners, and 3 oz. of CLP and 2 oz. of Militec. I need a boresnake for the WASR 10 and I'm all set.

I use a boresnake too and have a screw together rod for FTE (fortunately only had to use it once for my .22 LR)

But FYI if you didn't have any real cleaning supplies you could gut some paracord and make a knot in the end as an improtu boresnake. Maybe use some gas a cleaner and finish off with some trany fluid as lube. Not ideal but would probably work if no other options. Just something to think about.
