I am not sure this will make a difference i will be curious to see how many will be harvested during shotgun season. Hunted a lot of years never seen a bear in mass during shotgun season.
 
I have always purchased the 5 dollar stamp (or whatever the techical name is) and have never seen a bear out in the woods while hunting.
 
Typical of that agency, never really confronting the issue.

what is the issue .....the ignorant general public ?

You blame "them" for what the ignorant voters did ?........that is when the problem started.
Can't have a spring season too much uproar would be involved.

They actually did what they could on this and opened it when the highest abundance of hunters are in the field

One thing they could do that would help is up the bag limit.....have those that know how and are good at it get more than one

Yes I do, That agency was never in support of the trappers,

They didn't do it voters did.....not their fault

That agency refuses to come out and tell the public what really needs to be done and that is a repeal of question 1 of the 1996 election. The legislature has the authority to pass a law repealing that.

I'm sure our legislature is just waiting for the chance to do that as they want to deal with the uproar from the general public

As far as being concerned about the uproar, they need to tell the public the truth

If it doesn't directly affect them the truth doesn't matter to them.

I'm not any happier about the outcome than you.
I just feel it would be a total waste of time and resources for them to even try convincing the general public of facts.
Even worse it probably would put them under a bad light by the fruit-loop crew

Enough of this debate for me.

JW is right on the money. If you were around and paying attention to what was going on back then you would likely agree.

F&W is the steward of the resource and has the responsibility of managing the resource which includes educating the general public.

I know that I love the way that they have managed the deer herd. /sarcasm I love seeing a deer every 7-10 days I hunt public land.
 
So run away from this discussion, that probably is the best thing for you to do.

Only when the problem got epidemic in nature to the point of affecting roads, bridges, water supplies and rich constituent land.
Did our legislature decide maybe we should do something about it.........How many "years" was that ?
 
So I will help you a little more, F&W went to the legislature with in two years after the Ballot Question, and had the statute amended

I'm not great at looking things up all you have to do now is show me the date it was ammended
 
I am having some trouble understanding when Bear shotgun ends is it as listed in the first part Dec 2 or does it follow as stated in the second part and ends Dec 12 2015 when deer season ends.

Bear Shotgun Season: is listed as Nov. 30 –*Dec. 2

Shotgun Season: 1st Monday after Thanksgiving – 2nd Saturday thereafter. (These dates coincide with shotgun deer season, special rules apply)

Deer Shotgun Season: Nov. 30 –*Dec. 12 2015

In July 2000, Massachusetts tried to address those complaints by amending the act to allow individuals to apply to local boards of health for permission to trap beavers

Adds up to years by my math.......3.5

The bear hunting season is broken into three parts:

- First Season: Day after Labor Day – 3rd Saturday thereafter.
- Second Season: 1st Monday in Nov. – 3rd Saturday thereafter.
- Shotgun Season: 1st Monday after Thanksgiving – 2nd Saturday thereafter. (These dates coincide with shotgun deer season, special rules apply)

I think the date in the first section may be a typo and should be the 12th... but it will have to be checked with DFW.
 
I doubt this will make much difference - maybe a dozen bears at most. I've deer hunted in Maine all my life and have seen exactly zero bears during deer season. In fact, the only bears I have ever seen were getting into dumpsters in areas where you couldn't hunt them for a mile in any direction.


Hunting bear without being able to bait is pretty damned tough.
 
I've been hunting the north maine for about 15 years. A couple years I spent two weeks working with the guide baiting about 50+ sites a week. In all that time I've seen a total of 5 bears. Three on bait sites while hunting, and two were chance encounters on logging roads. This is after logging hundreds upon hundreds of hours on those roads and in the woods.

This was a sow ....when the picture was taken she was at my neighbors following a cub to my house.
This year so far I've seen 3....well one twice : )

If its a warm winter, yeah it could happen. They often do not "den" but find a small depression or hollowed out log to winter in...so they can be woken up by warm weather. Also, a sick one might be out starving trying to eat you...so now you can legally shoot it and take it if you are out deer hunting.

you really have to know a farmer that has corn fields being trashed by one.
