Anyone know if GOAL is going to have a booth or table or stand or whatever at the Big E this year? It would sure make sense for them to do that, and also have Eddie Eagle out handing out information to the kiddos.

I know S&W usually has a display at the Massachusetts building.

It is also always interesting to see all the NE state police in front of each building. They are all very impressive.

Gotta love those clydesdales, too.

Anyone else going? I know they have some holsters in one of the leather displays. Any other firearms related stuff?

If they could work it so there is free admission if you work the booth, I think they could get PLENTY of people to work a half day each or most likely more. I'd do it. GOAL?

Rather than post it here and hope that GOAL sees it, why don't you call them (as a GOAL member, right?) and volunteer to them directly

Don't know exactly. I figured I'd see if we could get some interested people, and then propose it to GOAL. I imagine it involves standing there and handing out flyers, selling memberships, shirts, and other paraphernelia. Feel like dressing up as Eddie Eagle?

Yup - You pretty much have the idea down.

The help is needed and I know for a fact that the GOAL staff REALLY appreciates it.

Eddie Eagle usually doesnt attend shows.... but that doesnt mean he won't.

Have you considered checking the GOAL website, Coyote?

GOAL and The GOAL Foundation can always use a little bit of help. Whether it is office work at the GOAL Headquarters in Northboro MA, in support at a public hearing at the State House, or meeting and greeting fellow gun owners and firearms enthusiasts at one of our shows, competitions, or events, we'd love the help! Keep an eye out on our "Friday News" for our current needs. If you do not get the "Friday News" email sign up at the bottom of this or any page on our site!

If you have some free time and would like to volunteer please drop us an email;

To volunteer at GOAL's HQ contact Michelle Kirouac

To volunteer at an event or show contact Angela Fisher

I've manned the GOAL table and its a great experience. Pretty much what Mrs. Magnum indicated. Talk to people as they walk by and try to sell memberships, raffle tickets, shirts, etc'. You also talk to folks who have questions about what's going on for laws and what GOAL is doing to help. If you read the monthly paper, you have all the information you need to talk intelligently with most folks. I met a lot of nice people and had a great time doing it. Have my name in to help anytime they need it.

I've been doing it for more years than I can remember (but out East). It's a lot of fun and you get to sign up new members as well as meet some fine folks.

If GOAL is at the Big E, I'll be glad to donate a few days.

It goes the other way around. GOAL only has a table at gun shows where they have volunteers to work the table FIRST! If nobody steps up first, then GOAL will not be there.

I've worked enough gun shows for GOAL to know how their system works. And I've been disappointed that GOAL hasn't been at some shows due to lack of volunteers (for both days).

So, if you want it to happen, give GOAL a call at 508-393-5333 and volunteer.

12 respondents so far. Figure one day each, and that is 12 days covered. It would be better to have at least 2 people there, for breaks and maybe to check out the rest of the show. How many days does the Big E run?

Thanks Len, I have worked the GOAL table a few times and am familiar with the volunteer process. Hopefully by now Kim has me on a permanent Western Mass list. I have also worked at the Big E in some capacity or other for the last 20+ years and trust me when I say that the Exposition is going to need a much larger work commitment than a gun or outdoors show.

This year's show is scheduled from September 17 to October 3, 10AM to 10PM. This is a total of 12+ hours a day for 17 days straight, with at least 3 or 4 people minimum per day plus backups if someone should run late or not show for whatever reason. That said, I will be glad to volunteer whatever time I have available for GOAL as well as making myself available to cover for no-shows, outside of my shifts in the Massachusetts building - which unfortunately have yet to be determined. So, although I can give at least 6 full days and probably an additional 6 half-days, it's too soon to tell exactly which days these will be.

Wow, that is intense!

Be aware that Kim no longer works for GOAL and it appears that nobody has been assigned to manage the trade shows yet. I asked at the GOAL Banquet and nobody (staff) could tell me who to talk with wrt volunteering at the shows in Marlboro). I again mentioned it to Tara this week when I paid for the GOAL/NES Shoot and she didn't know who would be handling the shows.

Your offer is quite generous and I hope you are able to connect with someone at GOAL that will take you up on it . . . I just don't know who that is.

I don't go to Springfield any more, too far away and the gun shows are nowhere near as good as they were many years ago at that venue.
