Best Ma compliant 1911?

I would seriously consult Greg before buying a ruger and dumping 1000$ more into it. I want to say Greg can guide you into spending 1600-2000$ better?

Yeah, money would be much better spent starting with a new frame/slide/ barrel than dumping $1k into a gun that wasn't professionally fit. It would be like putting $50K mods into a honda civic

Excellent point. Would you rather start with high end parts that started oversized, or have a master gunsmith do things like peen the rails on the frame to make for a tighter fit?

Welding has taken over peening and squeezing. In regards to Jake Kempton guns, they would be used only, he passed away in 2015 from cancer.

I am wondering if anyone runs a search before they post a thread any more????

doesnt matter.... i still cant find shit with the nes search feature even my own post. its very frustrating.
Also when someone revives a od thread they get flak for that also...
its all fun

Why only those two? I'm not a big fan of the rail

I disagree with Les Baer as "high end", though he is a known brand. Dan Wesson and Springfield custom are not high end either. High end is more along the lines of Wilson or Nighthawk.

The pointy part of the pyramid is SVI (www.sviguns.com). Incredible attention to detail, and it is a well known name. (Would you be interested in a Hammond or Kempton gun from AZ)

I know you've documented some significant issues with Les Baer. I've had excellent results as have some other very high volume shooters I know. So I guess we can agree to disagree.

I did fail to include high end gun like Wilson, Nighthawk, Strayer Voigt, Brazos, Ed Brown and even STI based on recent offerings. I guess I let the OP's assumed desire to keep it under $2k influence my choices.

Either way, all of these guns depreciate a LOT the second they are driven off the lot. If you can find a used one in good shape for a reasonable price, you stand a better than good chance of getting your money back out of it.

want a .45 like my RIA 9mm railed for a light. i am just not into 1911's sans rail i guess

DW Specialist gets my vote, although the VZ operator grips it comes with are pretty retarded aggressive. Enough that I'm considering getting a new set of panels for it. [laugh]

If cost is an issue you can go with stainless and itll take 150+ off the price.

Mike,

Regardless of what you think of Les Baer firearms, they're standard grips are pretty sweet. I like them so much that I put them on my DW Pointman 9. They are hand cut of some kind of decent wood. They have a nice shape and most importantly to me, they are not chamfered at the bottom or cut for access to the mainspring pin.

I prefer my grips like this.

Here are before and after shots of the DW with the crappy pressed in checkering on the stock grips and the Les Baer grips, which I think I picked up on GB for like $25.

I have VZ's for the Delta Elite. They look great but are indeed aggressive, rating somewhere between a chainsaw chain and cheese grater.

Yeah I definitely prefer the 2nd style. A Krapber I once owned had grips like the 2nd pic and they were pretty nice.

I bought a S&W 1911Sc as my first handgun and am reasonably satisfied with it (my only other experience is using Berettas as an 11B for ~ 10 yrs ). I got it for $1000 used from R&R in Belchertown, MA. Its a $1400 weapon so it seemed like a good deal..after inspection it seemed barely fired. If I could do it again, I'd spend the extra $ and get the Sig. A buddy of mine has one and it feels more precise than my S&W. Don't get me wrong the S&W is pretty decent for a mass produced 1911 compared to the others I've fired, but the Sig has an extra smoothness and accuracy I just don't get from the S&W.

i have to say after picking up the springfield loaded black operator , i realize why SA is really nice compared to my RIA .

for one , holy hell the hammer spring weight , and the recoil spring are for nato spec ammo , i can only rack this gun with my main hand, if i try to do it the opposite with my right hand its not happening lol.

the finish is beautiful , everything is smooth and nice . grips fit perfectly and its smooth front strap sits perfectly in my knuckle crease without irritation , i cannot imagine checkering there. i held a TRP and hated the checkering , i realize why chris kyle liked this gun now . though he also liked the sig 220 as well.

one very nice thing is that SA is doing a special . any gun you buy from them, you get 4 mags for free, plus a mag holder , and holster. just sent away for 4 more .45 mags.

unfortunately the EMP 3" was purchased before the feb start date so i cannot get 4 more mags free for that
