Ok, i did a search and there is info on making your own jerky, but since i am a lazy ass and dont have time for that, i want to hear from the guys who buy it, and which brand seems to be really really good. Not interested in bargain priced crap you cannot chew, but something tasty. Dont care about the flavor as i seem to like most of them as long as they do not set my mouth on fire. What say you guys on the favorite brand?

I'm partial to Jack Links .... the teriyaki tender bites are my favorites. I do make my own, its not that much work, but lots of time in the dehydrator.

    These guys.
Anything you find in the store if low quality dog food at best.

Also you can drop into this place and have a beer or two. Play some pool or arcade games while enjoying your jerky.

I make my own from angus sirloin, vacuum seal it in the 1/2 gallon mason jar to get the marinade and then dehydrate it

Yup. Make your own. Blows away anything you’ll buy. And have you seen the prices of jerky? Ridiculous. Absurd.

Anyone ever hear of the Newport Jerky Co. in RI? Some of their exotic stuff is scary, but I have had their Bison and Elk and both were great.
+1 for making it at home! I have a Ronco dehydrator with five trays that can make 4 lbs of beef into jerky using a few different recipes. It's better than store bought!

Oh yeah that's the stuff from Costco. Very tasty.

    I stick with this:

Relatively low in sugar, very chewy, good value. Everyone I gave this to loves it.

I don't make it often b/c it's not good for me. Usually has more sugar than I'd like. It lacks any fat. And it does a number on my teeth and gums.

I love it. I just don't make it often. But I do enjoy my own versus store-bought.

Maybe I should go just liquid smoke and soy sauce and dip the F'ers in cream cheese. No sugar. Fat ratio improved. Hmmmm.

I buy VERY lean, tender cuts of beef, trim any visible fat, then slightly freeze it before running it through the meat slicer. That gives much more consistent cuts.

I can't eat them anymore. Something in spicy cured meats that gives me a rash at times. :(

But my wife bought one of those industrial-sized boxes of them for my daughter from BJ's a month or so ago. I sadly look in the pantry and see it. :(. Although the "regular size" ones look AWFUL small compared to how big they seemed as a kid. I'm sure they are smaller, but I'm not sure how much smaller.

The only jerky I make is venison. The recipe reads "Guaranteed to convert any PETA member".

For store bought beef jerky we buy Country Archer. The first time we saw it was at Kalon Farm in Lancaster and it was love at first bite. All jerkys have such a high sodium content I can't eat too much of it.

Generally I go with Jack Links. I recently got some as a present called "True Jerky" in Korean Barbecue and Honey/Kentucky Bourbon. Both flavors were awesome.

I will have to check out some of the other brands mentioned above.

We make it from venison. Also, son Mark in Alaska sends down his smoked salmon. To die for! Jack.
