The state will do it for us.

(CBS4) BOSTON Helmets for soccer players?

A bill being heard on Beacon Hill Wednesday would make it the law in Massachusetts.

The measure would require helmets for soccer players at every level from pee-wee to college.

It would not affect professional leagues.

Some experts believe players can sustain long-term neurological damage from "heading" soccer balls. That's when players use their heads instead of their feet to shoot or pass.

The Boston Globe says the original bill called for a ban on heading, but was changed to require helmets instead.

Supporters of the bill say helmets would also protect players from head injuries suffered in collisions with other players, or with goalposts.

No other state has such a law.

Some actual research on soccer injuries.

http://sportsmedicine.upmc.com/MySportSoccerTop5.htm

Head injuries, including dental, eye, and brain injuries, constitute about 5 percent of soccer trauma. Closed-head injury is most often the result of a collision between players. Concussion occurs often when players try to head the ball and miss and collide with another player or a goal post.

While there has been some concern that repeated heading of the soccer ball leads to chronic brain injury, the most comprehensive study to date does not suggest that repetitive heading alone causes long-term neurologic impairment.

A study of elite soccer players at the 1993 Olympic Festival showed that properly executed heading was not found to result in any concussive episodes. Correct heading involves use of the frontal bone to contact the ball, the neck muscles to restrict head motion, and the muscles of the lower body to position the torso in line with the head and neck.

And always make sure you hit the ball; don't let the ball hit you, Reed says. Roberts recommends working to strengthen your neck muscles using isometric exercises. For example, use your hand to provide resistance against your head. Then use your neck muscles to turn your head right, left, forward and backward. To protect your mouth and teeth, wear a fitted mouth guard. You may also want to consider protective eyewear.

I guess that they are going to want to put a motercycle helmet on Boxers as well.

This was on the news in the morning. They almost laughed when reading this report. They also said that no other state has anything like this in the books. MA would be the first.

i say they shuold not only not wear helmets but they should be made to play on pavement just out of spite!
this is just getting to be too much..

Why don't we just ban procreation too?

I mean, that way we don't have to subject the poor child to the horrors of being born and prevent them from dieing. Because you know Dieing is the leading cause of death in the entire world.

Don't forget AIR. Everyone that breathes it has the same problem. All this stuff just has to be toxic. Ban it all. 8)

No

They want to tax air because everyone needs it. Of course they will think of some stupid subsidy to have me pay for the air that a drug dealer breathes or a woman who is a 3rd generation wellfare recipient and has no desire to stop taking the freebies.

It is about time. I am part of an organization called S.P.A.S.M. Superior People Against Soccer Moms. We do not want to ban soccer, soccer balls, or even soccer fields. We just think that reasonable regulations on sports are a good idea for everyone.

Safety is the responsibility of everyone, yet no one wants to be safe, so we feel that it is our duty to tell people who play in this “sport” what they need to be safe. Never mind that I do not play, watch, or know too much about soccer. Matter of fact we don’t even like the game, but there are fields all around Massachusetts and that concerns us.

We will not rest until each and every last soccer field is gone. Once that is done then we will work on getting rid of Fuzze Ball tables because that could lead to children playing soccer, or even having fun. We at S.P.A.S.M. don’t like fun.

[rolleyes] [roll]
It’s about time the soccer moms learn what it is like when govt. is shoved down their throat.

Y'know, my first question was "Does the FAQ contain the question "Are you people for REAL?" Then I looked at the ordering page and noticed that their phone number starts with a 44 country code.

They're based in ENGLAND. I guess that answers my question. [roll] [roll]

I actually like the concept. Now the Soccer folks (and I used to play as an adult, in Germany) will see what us Bike folks and Gun folks have to put up with.

The wider the cast of repression of rights, the more people that will resist it, and the more likely we will persevere. NEVER forget that folks.
