Bear Attack

Yeah, maybe, but you WERE that lucky, once upon a time. Truth is, I haven't played around with a "live" Claymore since "boot camp", and they were still shooting each other in Vietnam then. I learned about the trip wire deal much, much later.

Of course, you're going to have to come up some Memorial Day Weekend to Eden and have fun. They put expolsives down range, and we can set them off. If we were to get everybody from here together, on contiguous range points, I'm willing to share use of most of my "stuff". Unlike inmates of the PRM, I don't have to ask "Mother, may I". So, I've got some stuff that's definitely non-PC.

AR Clone
Pre-Ban M14 (semi)
L1A1 (FN-FAL)
RomAK 3 (Romanian Dragunov)
SKS, w/ det mag
AK, hi cap
several bolt guns (mostly military)
several handguns

Current projects

M91/30 Nagant sniper (fake)
M1 Garand

greenmountaingear is one of the folks that runs the range. Watch for when he puts out the invite. I usually only go on Mem Day Weekend, myself, too busy at bike rallies in the summer.

Yeah, my son also gets to do the "not so fun" jobs (like OIF) now. They just don't want to ship my old decrepit body overseas anymore.

They won't even take hubby's and my decrepid bodies back in. Keep hoping though. :D This time around it's harder watching our kids go instead of us.

The Corps told me last fall I was better to sit this one out. When the Gunny at HQMC stopped laughing he told me I might be able to get all the waivers approved in time for the next war, but don't count on it.

You've got that right. I WAS suppossed to go in March 2003 as part of a follow-on supporting a Field Arty (155 Self Propelled) from the Georgia Guard. They didn't like my "Artillery Ears" and Arthritis Meds. The mission got canked anyways. Then, when my unit came up for deployment, they didn't even consider me.

They took my son and many friends, though. 4 didn't make it back, though. 1 heart attack, 2 mortared, and the last 1 was an IED Blast.

Escorting convoys isn't what I'd call a safe job.

You're not that old Tony, are you?

A friend of mine has a son who's in the reserves now. He had got out of active duty just before 9/11 (he was teaching at Paris Island prior to getting out). I saw him a week or so after we went in to Afganistan. I asked him if he was glad he was out of it and his reply was "Hell no! I have my fingers crossed they'll activate me!" His boys were going over there and he wanted to be with them. I don't think I was ever as proud of him as I was then...ya would have thought he was my kid.

I'm sorry for your loss, Nickle.

If he's 40 "anything", he's younger than me. Hey Tony, we had one guy go that actually had to get an age waiver. He was 58 or just turned 59 when he left. He makes me look like a kid.

It's hell when the mind tells you, "Of course you can do it!!" and then the body says "Are you OUT of you MIND??"
[cry]

As a matter of fact that happened Sunday. My mind said, "Go ahead, you can move that big piece of furniture" and my back said, "Well, if you hadn't been stupid we wouldn't be spending these two days in bed".

I can identify with that. [roll]

I have a friend who just turned 50 something and last year they realized that because of a history of angina he was no longer deployable. They retired him after 30 years and one day. Command Sgt Major.
