Neighbor Christina Leverentz said she heard several gunshots around 4 p.m. and saw the gunman run to a white pickup that was parked in front of her house.

"He was a young man, but I didn't see a gun," she said. "But I knew it was him. This is horrible. This is supposed to be the safest city in the nation."

The safest city in the nation? I guess it is true, crack kills.

I missed any reference to crack or other drugs in the article, but it would be betting against the house to think that there wasn't some direct connection. BTW, for thos who might not have got the reference to "the safest city in the nation" Simi Valley probably has the highest concentration of police officers per capita of any place in the free world. The typical neighborhood has a couple of LAPD, 3-4 LA Sheriff deputies, and an FBI agent, not counting the assorted undercover officers and retirees.
