TL;DR: ISIS guy takes a hostage in a Carcassonne supermarket. Cop volunteers to swap himself for the hostage. Cop winds up shot and fighting for his life.

Whether or not that’s a good tactic, it’s a ballsy thing to do.

I recall some UN 'Peacekeepers' trying to do that in Bosnia. They wound up as additional hostages sitting on runways so NATO aircraft couldn't land to drop off more troops.

Still braver than the Cowards of Broward though. The Sheriff needs to be fired.

Sadly, the officer died overnight.

Agreed. Heroism requires personal risk and this guy sure displayed it. For those who denigrate the fighting spirit of the French, remember we'd still be British subjects without them.
