i try to put a aviter up but nothing happens when i try to unclick the do not use button. could you please help.

Hi fishman, welcome to the site. You need to be a green member to have an avatar. It is the best $19/yr that you can spend. The member's karma section alone is worth it, not to mention all of the member-only shoots.
 
I ran into the same thing. In my opinion, the avatar and signature pages, as well as the FAQ on these topics, should mention this fact instead of leaving you scratching your head. As someone who designs user interfaces for a living, I give this forum software a -1 for that. (Though I think this could be easily fixed hint hint.)

But I give the site a +1000 for everything else!
 
it is the choice of the administrator to have the memberships structured this way...

i personally feel it makes sense. everyone here enjoys using this forum-- for the owner of the board, though, it is not free to run...

it only makes sense to add more incentive to becoming a member...

believe me, there is way more advantage to being a member here than just an avatar and sig... [wink]
