Aussies tell Obama to ban guns like them

Studies found a marked drop in gun-related homicides, down 59 percent, and a dramatic 65 percent drop in the rate of gun-related suicides, in the 10 years after the weapons crackdown.

First, Australia is not the US. Obvious but there it is. Second, all 100%of gun violence is caused by people with guns. Reduce the amount of guns in the general populace and gun violence is reduced. But not violence in general. Violence by other means (clubs, knives and fists) are all on the rise in both Australia and England. Third, study after study in the US has shown that stricter gun laws do not reduce violence. MA remains the most strict New England state and yet it continues to be ranked by the FBI Uniform Crime stats as the most violent of all New England states. Fourth, who gives a crap what the Aussies think?

Failed to mention how other crime rates have gone through the roof since they went FoR towards guns. There's a vid on you tube out there. I might search for it and post that up.

One word, "Chicago"

Shhhh, we can't go there.

"Even Australia's Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:

  • In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
  • Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
  • Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.

Moreover, Australia and the United States -- where no gun-ban exists -- both experienced similar decreases in murder rates:

  • Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent.
  • During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
  • Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
  • Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
  • At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
  • Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women."
