Assault Weapon ban for Canada

From what I’m seeing for sale online, there isn’t really any “assault weapons” (as defined by the USA) to begin with in Canada. Possibly they’re changing the definition?

Edit: I probably should have read the article before replying...seems as though they are changing it.

Maybe they will just ban all semi auto rifles? They have weird restrictions there. You can't have an AK but a lot of Canadians have VZ58s for example.

Canadians can own AR15s but they need a special permit and are limited to 5 rounds in the mag. They can roll any barrel length, when I bust their chops at long range competitions they love to point out they can SBR their ARs without NFA and bullshit charges. I'm always like, yeah cool story.

I found a video of a Canadian AR. Non-restricted AR's fit together differently than typical US upper and lowers.

They are allowed to have the scary flash hider and dangerous bayonet lug. And wait for it, pinned magazines to 5 rounds.

That must be a scouts honor thing...wink wink.

If the modern sporting rifle is not equipped with select fire, full auto features, it is a modern sporting rifle. The left repeats the lie enough times to make the lie seem the truth. They got this strategy from the propaganda wing of the German Socialist Worker's Party.

The shooter used a Mini-14. This is about never letting a tragedy go to waste.

They can only use pinned 5rd mags, but unassembled mags are just considered parts, so that is what everybody has in their range bags. Once they get to the range they assemble the 30rd mags and have fun.
A pinned mag only means a mag that has a pop rivet in it to stop it to 5rds.

The AR upper and lowers that I saw were normal guns. I brought an 7.5" upper with me and we placed it on a friend's lower without a problem.

There are some people that can have the restricted AK rifles. Every one else has a Valmet rifle converted from the hunter config to an AK config.
I've heard of some guys making their own AKs from flats and parts kits. To get by the registration they had the flats all made up with Valmet markings and a serial number within the known range.

Canada Plans to Ban Assault-Style Rifles Following Nova Scotia Shooting

The federal government plans to ban several assault-style weapons that have been used in mass shootings, but one gun expert says the policy has major loopholes.
According to the Globe and Mail, the Liberals will soon lay out a list of guns they plan to ban, including AR-15 rifles which have been used in mass shootings like Sandy Hook and Parkland. They also plan to ban Ruger Mini-14s, used in the 1989 École Polytechnique shooting; VZ58 semi-automatic rifles, used in the 2017 Quebec mosque shooting before the shooter switched to a handgun; and M14 rifles, used in the 2014 Moncton shooting.

News of the restrictions comes two weeks after a gunman killed 22 people in Nova Scotia, both by shooting them and setting their homes on fire. Police have said the shooter had pistols and long-guns, but did not access them legally.

Canada’s firearms regulations classify guns into three categories: non-restricted, restricted, and prohibited. The ban would make some assault-style weapons prohibited.
The terms “assault weapon” and “assault rifle” often conjure up debate, with some gun proponents arguing that the terms are meaningless and used to fear-monger.
A.J. Somerset, the London, Ontario-based author of Arms: the Culture & Credo of the Gun, said the best definition of an assault-style weapon is a semi-automatic centerfire rifle with an attachable magazine and a pistol grip.

Has anyone actually seen the list that shows this? I have a hard time believing this is anything other then BRC making a clever viral marketing ploy.
