What this guy did to these young people is as horrible as it gets.

it has been confirmed that there was an "work' connection with these three. That is to say they worked at the same network for an overlapping period of time. So they knew each other.

The shooter left a note explaining what he was doing and why. Are the police going to lend any weight to that note? This guy targeted these two for a specific reason. He stated they made racist and homophobic remarks towards him. Is that a reason to kill someone? Absolutely not. We seem to have lost sight of the meaning of "sticks and stones but names will never hurt me".

And it is sad and horrible and as bad as it gets that these two young people are dead. I don't want that aspect of this diluted in any way. But according to his note these people were not very nice to him and maybe they had their reasons.

I am not victim blaming here....but they are painting these two as saints when the letter accuses them of being racists and homophobes.

Obviously it would have been longer lasting if he left them alive and publicly outed them for their bigoted views. But that didn't happen.

So why is everyone glossing over his dying declaration?

As for the dad....now you have a problem with the laws? Hypocrite.

Anyway, this guy had nothing that would have flagged him in the system so what are they planning to fix?
 
Cuz if he had an ISIS knife, she would still be alive today [rolleyes]

Or a hammer, or his car, baseball bat, etc.

I feel bad for this man's loss, but he is a fu(kin ignorant moron! To ignore the FACT that moar gun control wouldn't have prevented this (dude passed a background check) and that moar gun control has never prevented any crimes that anyone can name (where as armed citizens HAVE and MILLIONS of occasions) is the definition of pure ignorance and incompetence!

Gun control does NOT work. It never has and it never will. If criminals and whack jobs don't obey them, then what good are they ???? When you outlaw something you create an illegal demand for them like in the 20's and 30's with alcohol, same thing with drug. And how's that working out ? Someone will always be able to fill that demand. So the only thing gun control would accomplish would be to take guns out of the hands of law abiding folks and place them into the hands of criminals and loonies. Illegal guns can be bought and sold on almost any street corner in America. Meaning any major city.

Mr. Flanagan is clearly (based on media reports) a *-baiting, professional victim that was willing to kill for his viewpoint. I think I'll wait a bit before writing off the newsies as racist homophobes. Can we coin a shorter term for that? Maybe raphobes? Or rahomes?

you're right. I don't mean to label them. But dying declarations or suicide notes...this was in his head as his reason.

But there are exceptions to every rule and more gun control; would not have stopped this guy from getting a gun. He was law abiding right up and to the point when he shot these people. So what gun control measure could have stopped this?

None that I see.

His choice...if my daughter was the victim the socialist gun grabbers would not want to be anywhere around me. This guy (supposedly) lost his daughter and that's horrible. What he does after defines him and it seems he's a weak gun grabbing socialist lemming.

i heard the perfect description of the shooter on a morning news program. they called him a grievance collector, meaning he would assign blame to everybody except himself for his problems and failures.

i've tried to drill it in a few people's heads before and again after this incident. A background check is that; a look back. It is NOT a predictive tool and should not be thought of as such. Once its put in that perspective its makes a little more sense, or not, depending on the person you're talking to.

There is no pre-crime unit that magically knows who is going to snap when. There are sometimes clues that something is coming but as of now there is no way-back machine to go back and prevent a crime like that.

And also to reiterate, that he could have used a bat, knife, stapler, barney doll ect. to carry this out.

I have no doubt. Even if they did what he said they had done there is never any excuse for him to respond in the way that he did or to do what he has done.

Obviously nobody knew he would do anything like this. But be nice to people just in case...lol
 
As long as there are people who believe that the penalty for (real or perceived) homo/race/whatever comments is death, I'll keep my guns thank you.

I think the mountain of testimony that this guy was a white-hater racist and showed signs of mental illness make his parting letter less meaningful, He spoke about being a "powder-keg" waiting to explode, and he had many unsubstantiated accusations towards just about anyone who crossed his path. The guy planned the murder of 2 people on live TV, you want to take his warped thoughts seriously?

Yeah, i'm not sticking up for him. He is/was totally wrong. This was premeditated or a planned execution or whatever other awful name we can give it. But these people weren't the ones who fired him. Not claiming I know how twisted people think, but I believe he would have focused his attention on others who were directly responsible for firing him. They said he had a list of things to do...maybe he got caught before he had time to finish....I don't know.

Hopefully in his quest he does the actual research and realizes gun contol was never the issue. Condolences to the family, no one should have to bury their children.

I follow you, why choose these 2? My guess is because they were attractive, well liked white former colleagues that made it higher up the ladder than he did. Neither of us will ever know though. I don't try to understand the reasoning of a madman.
