Uhh, if you've ever shot from behind a barricade (eg, like a 5 hole) running it sideways is necessary to engage the target from the holes near the bottom of the barricade. There is no way in hell you can really do it from prone with a typical 20 or 30 round magazine still in the gun. Not to mention some of the holes on a barricade are set up to force you to shoot sideways.

As long as your enemy approaches in an orderly manner with COM at least 36" off the ground and not moving, bench rest shooting is the best way to prepare to fight them.Ok, cool, just struck me as way too So. Central LA. I can dig it.
