The subject line says it all: Are the S&W M&P's sold in Mass any different than M&P's sold in other states? (heavier trigger pull, any crap like that?) I've read some conflicting info, and just wondered if anyone knows for sure.

Thanks!

I knew about the stupid 10-rounders but wasn't sure about the heavier trigger. Thanks for confirming. I guess that's why everyone does the APEX trigger kits or the Greg Derr mods then. Thanks.

They have a gay 10-15 pound trigger pull. Note that it IS LEGAL for you to repair this. (contrary to gun shop commando a**h*** musings etc).

Also note that the MA SKUs are also offered WITHOUT the mag safety. The mag safety is not a requirement because the gun has an LCI. Basically if the gun doesn't have the WARNING WILL FIRE WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED emblazoned on the slide, it has a mag safety. Also note that even if you have a mag safety model, you can have a gunsmith remove that, as well.

M&P MA versions also come with 10 round cripplemags, which with the new "revised" (for some unknown reason) followers that S&W is supplying, are turning out to be pure shit. You may have to grind down the follower to get the mag to seat easily when it is loaded to its capacity. Note that this doesn't apply to the M&P .45 as it is native 10 rounds only... also does not apply to the M&Pc .40/.357 .

Anyone able to verify the rumor that Sig P226 mags might seat properly in an M&P 9mm? Just curious (I own an M&P 45, so this is purely theoretical question)

If you get a .45 full size, take apart the mags day 1. If they are orange (old), or green springs (very new) you are good to go. If they are purple call S&W and tell them that your mag springs are bending and that they are the purple ones. (This WILL happen - did it on 4/4 purples I had). They will ask for your address and send you some new ones no questions asked.

I chose a M&P9c with the mag safety and had Greg Derr remove it when he did the trigger.
==> no warning on the slide.

The mag safety and very annoying take down lever are easily remedied by simply removing the pin both safeties ride on and removing all parts. You don't need anything that rides on that lower front pin.

After having owned a MA M&P for several years, and subsequently buying a few Glocks, I no longer see much of a point in buying an M&P in this state. Yes, the M&P does feel good in my hands, and I can shoot it very accurately (pretty much same groups as the Glocks). But, in the end it isn't really worth the trouble of having a trigger job, and then being limited to 10 round mags since there's no pre-ban mags. And, even with the trigger job, the pull is still quite a bit stronger than the Glocks, so I find it annoying when switching from Glock back to M&P (where I otherwise probably would not have noticed had I not had a Glock to compare with).

I bought a M&P45 with mag safety for the same reason. When I installed my Apex kit I removed it.

Agree on the preban mag issue. I don't find the trigger pull to be heavier after my Apex install (though I started with a free state M&P), but the trigger pull is longer.

Finally people are waking up to this. I'd rather have a used Glock than a brand new M&P. A new Glock would be even better!

Personally, I don't mind the 10 round limit in my M&Ps anymore than the 8 round limit in my 1911s, or 5 round limit in my j-frames.

I really, really don't like cripplemags.... particularly ones designed like this....

Meh. I have an M&P .40. Not sure why the hate other than fanboyism. Yes the capacity is limited but so aren't all new guns. The Apex kit makes an excellent trigger. The Glocks simply aren't as comfortable for me.
