Archaeologist packing heat

Doesn't everyone pack in Israel

Contrary to popular belief, no. Israel just seems to have an inordinate amount of armed folks because there are a lot of people with government permission slips of various kinds.

Also, their soldiers enjoy a position of trust rather than suspicion in society.

A US soldier would never be permitted to take his duty weapon home "to have it ready just in case", or carry it in public while off duty or on leave.

True, but in fairness a US soldier's country isn't under constant threat of armed invasion by several countries. Remember, all of Israel us about the size of New Jersey.

Sometimes. A Webley the rest of the time. BHP for backup.
In raiders he had a model 1917 in one scene and a hand ejector 2 in another. Dont know why they didnt keep him using the same revolver. The one he tossed in his suitcase was a 1917. But he did also get ahold of a bhp.

Soldiers in the US are left unprotected and cannot carry a fire arm on base unless they are an mp or assigned the duty of secfor. If issues a a weapon they are going to the range to train....period. US Soldies are not actually trusted with weapons in CONUS (inside the states) environment.

I get your point here, but Picton specifically mentioned "armed invasion by several countries", which Ft. Hood was not. Ft. Hood was a mass shooting committed by a psycho Muslim who was a US soldier.

One downside of monolithic vs multicultural population.

There's actually a very good reason for this, and it goes back to the founding father's distrust of standing armies as well as the 3rd Amendment. Unfortunately we militarized the shit out of the police, which is the actual situation the FF feared. Awesome, right?

This. The Rubicon has been crossed in a way they didn't anticipate.

Yeah; it's just a completely different mindset. Completely.

It had to do with where they filmed. Scenes shot in the UK had to use studio weapons available there, vs in America. Even then, transportation of firearms overseas was dicey enough that it was easier (cheaper) for the studios to go with a local supplier, especially when only geeks like us would notice.

As as for the BHP, they wanted a 1911 but 9mm blanks were more reliable than .45 blanks. Simple as that. Again, only gun geeks really care.

With all those crazy piece-niks around there, he seems under-armed.
