AR Build Needs A Little Help

Just as a short term option, I can tell you that vice grips with tape over the tips works perfectly for the roll pins. I've assembled a handful of lowers with this method and its really easy.

Roll pin punches are the proper way to go, but you can do a good job without them. Some information here:

That's what I thought. I have labored for years without the benefit of roll pin punches because I was too cheap to but an additional set. I finally sprung for a set of seven Proto roll pin punches ($36.87 from Enco) and couldn't be happier with them. I wish I had smartened up years ago. They make the job so much easier; well worth the $.

NO! Don't buy anything from Model 1 sales. They got all their credit card info hacked and everyone that buys from them gets fraudulent charges on their accounts [thinking]

[rolleyes]

Their credit card processing company was hacked, not M1S itself. This is an issue affecting many, many businesses, not just M1S.

And if you don't want to call in an order, then you could always go through Midway.

I am way out in the woods by exit 2. It looks like I will spend the 30 bucks and buy a set. I was suprised by how easy it was to do all of the rest of the assembly.

yup - the only way to fly.

I put a few layers of masking tape on the back side of the part and just squeezed the pins in. Remove the tape and you're done. No vise or 3 hands needed.

I used tape and my run of the mill Craftsman punches. The Vice Grip trick to start them in the hole then tap them in with a small hammer, then a punch for the final 1/16th of an inch.

I layered masking tape around the area I was working on, not a mark of any sort when I was done.
