Greetings,

Just to confirm, the mass regs :

The barrel total length must be 16”
The brake must not be removable

Anything else ?
Thanks,
-R

If the barrel is over 16" the brake being removable or not is irrelevant I thought?
Separate problems. If a rifle barrel is under 16" it becomes a SBR. Permanently affixing a long enough muzzle device fixes that.

But, for an AR, it still needs AWB compliance, and a removable muzzle device is one of the enumerated features.

Barrel length on rifles is a federal regulation.

If you're building a semiauto rifle that accepts detachable magazines in MA, you're subject to the AWB features test. You get no more than one of the following:
  1. folding or telescoping stock
  2. pistol grip
  3. bayonet mount
  4. flash suppressor/threaded muzzle
  5. grenade launcher
It's all well-hashed here:

Remeber when measuring barel length it is supposed to be on a closed bolt. Usually a cleaning rod or wooden dowel can help with that, although you would like to think that manufacturers selling barels marked 16" take that into consideration.

Don't forget to remove that bayonet lug, god knows how many people have been killed by one.
