I have an A.R. 15 lower made in 2010 purchased in Massachusetts legally
What kind of upper can I put on It?
Can it have a flashhider or does it have to be a muzzle brake?

It can have a muzzle brake if, and only if, it's "permanently attached" (sliver solder or pinned and welded are the most common ways)

Assuming you want to keep the pistol grip you can't have
- a bayonet mount
- telescoping stock
- a flash hider
- a threaded muzzle (if not "fixed" with a brake or otherwise)
- a flame thrower attachment
- a grenade launcher mount
- a candy cane distributor

You can presumably tell which two are jokes. All the rest are real.

One more question-
I’m about to purchase a muzzle brake from midway USA
Should I get a 223 or a 556 or does it matter?
Thank you for your help !!!

.223 and 5.56 are identical in this respect (and many others)

All AR's are of dubious legal standing here in MA. I strongly suggest you light that thing on fire and dispose of it responsibly...be grateful that you dodged a bullet at joining the ranks of us felons.
