Getting confused on my AR-10 build. I have an Armalite pattern upper and most of the barrels out there are marked "DPMS style". I do not know what that means

I understand that the barrel nut threads are different between Armalite (AR-10) and DPMS but most of the free float handguards that I am looking at come with the correct Armalite thread pattern.

My question is whether the Barrel itself has any difference that would prevent using a "DPMS" barrel in an Armalite upper?

THankt.

P.S. searched this forum and found no answer.

My understanding is you can mismatch the barrels but the bolt MUST match the barrel used. Armalite/ Armalite, dpms/ dpms. Out of preference I used an Armalite barrel with my Armalite receivers. The handguard must match the receiver brand/ type due to the differences in rail heights (Armalite, dpms high profile, dpms low, etc). Also a difference in barrels is the gas system lengths. These are not standardized so Armalite midlength or rifle length is not the same as dpms. So the gas tube is also dependent upon brand.
