It has been warm like summer ...except for the other day when it became a little chilly out.
That was a Manhattan day
Weather turned chilly, we switched to rye:
OldFashioned.jpg
Old Fashioned (per each)
  • 2 oz Willett Rye Whiskey
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 1 teaspoon water (to dissolve sugar)
  • twist of orange zest
  • cherry garnish
  • quality ice (I used distilled water in a sphere mold)
Serve with a good cigar and a roaring fire.

Nothing fancy here. Apple Pie “moonshine” mixed with apple cider. Bride and I are each 2 in...another few & she might be in for the best 4 1/2 minutes of her week. 😉

MrsA is always fussing over some concoction or another. Lately it's been cocktails based on home made strawberry infused vodka.
Other times grapefruit, always fresh squeezed, or lime based.
Takes her a while to get set up and prep, mix, crush ice, etc.
Meanwhile, I pour out a healthy dram of Lagavulin and watch.
I'm normally a Bourbon / Rye neat or over ice guy but lately have been working on perfecting my Old Fashioned chops. I even conned the old lady into joining me a few nights ago. She approves.

I like all drinks but I'm always going to be a whiskey/bourbon/scotch on the rocks kind of guy. Been enjoying Rye the last few months.

I will be reviewing this thread carefully...

Pipe's Mai Tai

2 oz. Amaretto
2 oz. Triple Sec or Cointrau
2 oz. Rum Dark Rum (Malibu Black)
4 oz. Rum Light Rum (Parrot Bay Coconut 90)
4 oz. Pineapple Juice
4 oz. Sweet and Sour mix (bottled is fine but home brew is better)
Spin in blender until aerated

You can scale this up by reading "oz" as "quart" or whatever.

Need oregat syrup for a mai tai.
For me,
1 part oregat syrup
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
1 part Grand Marnier
8 parts rum

The rum should be something NOT spiced. I like a combination of Zacapa and Kill Devil Gold.
