It has been warm like summer so I have switch from Manhattens to Gin and Tonics and the wife has switch from Chocolate Martinis to Vodka and Tonic except for the other day when it became a little chilly out. That was a Manhatten day

One thing I haven't missed during this whole COVID thing is trying to explain to waitstaff/bartenders that Manhattans don't have to be sweet. For most of them that seems to be all they know. Makers, house red vermouth, orange bitters, maraschino garnish.

When I ask for a Perfect Manhattan, what I don't want is something that may as well be a Cherry Coke. Mixing at home means I get Basil Hayden, Carpano Antica and Dolin Dry, orange and aromatic bitters, with a twist, no cherry.

National Mojito Day coming up on the 11th. I’ve got a nice crop of mint going in the garden.
Today.....

National mojito day was yesterday. I made another batch for today. I’m calling this a blueberry peach mojito. Made it up with what I had on hand.

Gin & Tonic with fresh blackberries.

Going to try it again next week when my low-bush blueberries ripen, assuming the local wildlife leave me any.

Whiskey, Ice and Water (then again, I'm boring), Manhattan (if I really feel like being fancy - not often) or a boilermaker.

I have tried infusions using :

1. Mint from the garden and grain alcohol.
2. Minced fresh ginger and rum .
3. Portuguese hot sauce (peri-peri)
using equal parts fresh thai peppers, whiskey, vinegar and olive oil (keeps indefinitely).

8 oz light rum, 8 oz dark rum, 4 oz triple sec,4 oz orgeat syrup and 8 oz of pineapple juice. Shake and pour over ice and garnish with orange slices and maraschino cherries
This is just about the recipe my grandfather found post-war on the West Coast. They (the Tiki bar) also added about 4 ounces of house made cherry infused vodka since they were part of a cherry growing region

My sister just gave me a jar of some "artisan" maraschino cherries. I wonder how a little of the juice would work.

In addition my my Qs and Hendricks, I've grown fond of my own twist on the Polish classic "szarlotka" which is traditionally apple juice and this stuff:

The twist: Angry Orchard instead of the apple juice. [grin]
i love that vodka too!
the bison grass, in sufficient quantity, is actually poisonous.
