Quarantine G&T -- real Quinine, but sadly, no gunpowder.

Two bad habits I brought back from Éire -- gunpowder gin and metric units.

Ingredients:
  • Gunpowder Irish Gin (50ml)
  • Indian Tonic Water (100ml)
  • Block ice (200ml)
  • Satsuma (1/3 of the smallest orange you can find, peel and all)

I discovered a new method for drinking bourbon yesterday. Pour a few fingers of Basil Heydon. Enjoy half of it while wrapping up some work, then dump the second half on the keyboard of your work laptop.

Proceed to stress drink even more bourbon.

Today's Vitamin-C cocktail: the classic screwdriver

Ingredients:
  • 1 part Polish
  • 2 parts OJ
  • 2 parts Ice
Does Vodka ever go bad? I'm moving stuff around on the bottom shelf of my food pantry closet and found a 2 liter of Absolute unopened. I can't even guess how long it's been there. Maybe 5-6 years at least. Was behind and air popper I never use. I don't remember buying it and My last G/f wasn't really a drinker I can't see her spending for it either.
Unflavored vodka in a sealed glass bottle, if the liquid level hasn't changed, is fine. It doesn't get better with age, but it doesn't go bad as long as it's still clear.

I’ve been on a Negroni/Boulevardier kick lately. Playing with ratios to get it just right. Additionally, the Italian Greyhound has caught my fancy.
5oz. Grapefruit juice
1-1/2 oz. gin
1 oz. campari
Not too bitter, not too sweet, just slightly tart. Wifey took over last night and threw some tequila in Stewarts black raspberry soda with a squirt of lime. Hot damn! Absolutely delicious 😋

No pictures unfortunately.

Bought a bottle of KEO St. John's Commandaria to make apple pie. Pie came out magnificently. Leftover wine goes very well while watching the Gathering Storm about Winston Churchill. There's a ton of wine left at my local package store, so I'm going to be enjoying the next few weeks.

Fortified and straw wine are among the beautiful things in the world.

Not a teetotaler, but my grandmother was an alcoholic and apparently it runs in my family (mother's side), so while I'll have a glass of wine here or there (Father came over on the boat from Italy) I've just never been that interested / extremely wary - but now my wife has been asking about quarantine cocktails and it's piqued my curiosity.

I was going to start a thread, but did a search and found this thread instead!

We are not heavy drinkers. This is the most we've ever had in a similar time table by a long shot.

Speaking of shots... Here is even more...

1589048392810.jpeg

Ginger Spritzer

1 oz Light Rum
1/2 oz Lime Juice
1/4 oz cola syrup
Pinch of Ginger Powder
Soda Water

Mix measured and shake with ice. Add Soda Water to fill glass.

1589048635453.jpeg

Neptune's Wrath

1.5 oz Gin
1/4 oz Absinthe
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
3/4 oz Simple Syrup
1/4 oz Green Chartreuse

1589048740983.jpeg

Dead Rabbit Tipperary

1.5 oz Irish Whisky
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
1/2 oz Green Chartreuse
1/2 oz chilled water
1 tsp Simple syrup
2 dash of Orange Bitters

1589048928797.jpeg

English in What

1.5 oz Bourbon
1/2 oz Cynar
1/2 oz Dry Vermouth
dash of Bitters
Pinch of Cinnamon

Shake well with ice to mix cinnamon as it tends to clump

1589049560455.jpeg

The Bitter

1.5 oz Gin
3/4 oz Green Chartreuse
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
Dash of Absinthe

Wash glass with Absinthe. Mix the remaining with ice and pour into washed glass.

1589049695421.jpeg

Sparkling Candy Cane

1 oz Vodka
1/4 oz Raspberry Syrup
1/4 oz Cream de Menthe
Soda Water

Mix measured with ice. Top with Soda Water and stir to combine. Garnish with candy cane if desired.

A couple classics...

1589049857407.jpeg

Dark and Stormy

2 oz Dark Rum
3.25 oz Ginger Beer
2 dashes of bitters

1589049938360.jpeg

Moscow Mule

1.5 oz Vodka
4 oz Ginger Beer
0.25 oz Lime Juice

Mix and stir with ice. Should be served in a copper mug.

1589050049544.jpeg

The White Russian

1.75 oz Vodka
0.75 oz Coffee Liqueur
2 oz Milk

1589050120290.jpeg

Tequila Sunrise

1.5 oz Tequila
3 oz Orange Juice
0.5 oz Grenadine

I tried this with a nice Resposato, but didn't feel it added anything. Just use a white Tequila.

Working on another Secret Squirrel Bloody Mary for Mother's Day. This one is infused with bacon. We'll see how it turns out when I post the next episode of Anytime Cocktails.

A lot of these look very tasty. I'm too cheap (for now) and lazy to experiment with a lot of these. A good old rum and coke does it for me most of the time.

The rule here is no repeat drinks until COVID lockdown is over. Which is why I need to get creative with my Sunday Bloody Mary recipes. I have at least a month's worth yet to go in what I have lined up, but there is tons of stuff on-line to try. Hopefully this quarantine will end before fresh mixes.

I went the opposite way during the quarantine. Started training again. Lost 40 lbs. Haven’t had a drink in three months. Time for celebratory cocktail. [smile]

I blame @Kevin_NH [wink]
