Anyone use the Plano pistol cases for transport?

These guys:

I ordered a couple for the heck of it. 7 bucks apiece seems like a cheap gamble for something lockable and hard sided. How hard sided remains to be seen, I guess. Wondering if they'd make good range transport containers of pistols within a larger bag. Range bag doesn't have a great deal of "lockable" room in the pocket, but does have room in the middle compartments.

Anyway, what do you think?

PRO: Inexpensive, Quality, Rugged, Lockable, probably USA

CON: No room for Spare Magazine, Ammo

For me the CON outweighs the PRO, but people have different needs at different times.

Harbor Freight has inexpensive KEYED ALIKE padlocks.

Good point. I figured that spare mags and ammo would be in the range bag since they don't need to be locked up for transport. These would just carry the guns themselves since my range bag has limited "lockable" pocket space but a decent amiunt of general storage. Of course as the family grows I'll have to work up something scalable.

I've got a couple of the four pistol cases that I like pretty well when I'm heading to the range or back home to Tennessee. They work well and have lots of room.

I don't take a ton to the range, so a Fat 50 Ammo can (a bit bigger than standard 50 cal cans) with locking hardware added to the front takes care of all my Mass compliance needs for stroage and transport. I can even run a cable around the seat and secure it inside the vehicle, in case I need to stop somewhere and leave my gear in the car. My old range bag seemed too easy to take off with or get into for a smash and grabber.

These locks are quick and easy to install with a drill. I believe a member on these forums sells them as well.

I gave up on locking my pistols up individually in hard cases; too much work. I carry all of my pistols in soft cases (which have pockets for parts and mags) and lock all of them in a polymer tool box that serves as my range bag.

These are the locks that the forum member sells. Super happy with them.

Same here. Life got a lot better when I took the locks off of the cases and put a lock on my large range bag that holds all of the pistols.
