Hello,

I am in the market for a safe for my guns. Right now I have 3 long guns and a handgun, but I want room for other things and also future guns I may own. I have a GunVault (MiniVault) in my bedroom for my handgun and need something that I can store everything else in. I like the design and entry system of the GunVault so I was wondering if anyone had their full size safe and their thought on it. I cannot find a review online about it and also seems like everywhere online is sold out of them, making me think its a good seller.

Anyways the one I was interested in was the biggest one, model GV5926-F. The site with all the information is:

http://www.gunvault.com/gun-safe-5900-series.html

The description is :
The GunVault 5000 Series is a full-featured safe offering trademark GunVault quality and security. With its massive 3/4" steel composite door and 16-gauge unibody construction, the 5000 series is the ultimate value for storing your possessions.

My concern was is the 16 gauge steel going to be sufficient? I don't want to go over $1000 since that is my budget. Its also 300 pounds so not something that someone can break in and easily carry out of my basement and make off with it either to spend time on trying to get into it.

Any opinions or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I looked into them but decided not to buy, primarily because of the thin steel cabinet.

16 gauge is about as thin as anything available that masquerades as a safe.

It's adequate for temporary storage of defensive guns, in between trips to the big safe (as in regular gun vaults), but I wouldn't rely on it for long term storage or real protection against theft.

It's pricey for something that thin and you're essentially paying a high price for the opening mechanism and brand name.

http://www.easternsecuritysafe.com/Products/gunsafes/gsmain.htm.....worth the trip, compare side by side. If I had more space I would get a 51" wide model and a few smaller ones for bed room.

A few things. My friend proved to me how crappy most anchors are that come with the safe. I thought I had it snug to the cement floor. A few good shakes and he popped those buggers right out of the cement.

I ended up using the 10,000 lb 3/4" anchors for things like car lifts and sign post. then found some large washers and reinforced the bottom with some 3/8 steel plate.

Also you would probably be surprised at just how fast a few guys can haul a 300-500lb safe out of your house.

Personally I think if thieves targeting you specifically for your guns are going to know how to crack most of the safes out there in short time, but the neighbors punk kid whacked out on Oxycodone wont get his hands on them.

Good read!

Buy the best you can afford. If that means buying a smaller but better safe so be it.

Take a look around in Henry's or the papers for a used Mosler Record Safe. Everyone wants a small one for their papers that can be located in a closet. No one - except us - wants the large ones. You can get those for pretty short money or free. Hire a safe rigger to move it for you. I reccomend Mancini Safe in Norwood.

Hope that helps,

Hey guys thanks for all the great info and resources. I have gone through it all and went by Eastern Security Safe and poked around... I will end up getting one of those "real" and heavy duty safes, and spend more than I was planning on but I figure do it right the first time haha.

Thanks.
