Am looking to upgrade / update a 30 yr. old hard wired monitored system with new technology and video. Anybody have any experience with ADT?? Any other suggestions.
Thanks

I had them years ago when they were basically the only game in town.

One weekend when I was away, the alarm went off. They called me and said the a door alarm went off. I told them that nobody should be home and I am away for the weekend. They were supposed to dispatch the PD. They never did.

How do I know? I have cameras and I never saw PD come over and check.

I do have friends in the FBI and they came over for me to check though, and they even waved at my cameras and gave me a thumbs up. LOL.

Plus now they just use wireless systems. Avoid them and go with Ring or SimplySafe for less money and the same service if you want monitored.

Neither Ring or SS are UL rated so you won’t get a discount on your insurance.

You might want to look at self-monitoring with a home automation hub (e.g. Hubitat Elevation and z-wave or zigbee sensors) which pushes notifications to its corresponding phone app. No fees. I still use old (free) Arlo cameras and phone app for live video verification.

wrong, i have SS, and with the certificate i recieved when i signed up for monitoring, got me a discount on my homeowners ins.
That was absolutely wrong 3-4 years ago for a Chatham property I was deeply involved in. Ended up with a full blown system with multiple cameras.
Chubb was the carrier. However they did provide about 10K worth of water shut off equipment for free. (Moisture detectors, flow meters, motorized valves ect.) We only paid for the labor to install it so it was a wash in the end.

Continued to charge a dead relative even after provided death certificate to cancel said service , tried to go after another relative for the charges until lawyers were involved and harassment was threatened

Check out SimpliSafe ...
Have had them for years
Always get a call when the alarm went off....
Also has a panic button so you know that the cops are on the way without a call

I had them 30 years ago when I lived in Albuquerque. My experience was good, came home twice to police sneaking around my place because they had been alerted by ADT to something going on. Each time the police did a walk through to make sure the house was safe.
I'm wondering if the quality of the service varies by location...

If your house is hardwired, can the Simplisafe system use all of the previously installed stuff, or must it be new wireless sensors?
Ring has an adapter box to utilize the old built in sensors, I think it maxes at five per box but you can run multiples.

I’ve had Ring for about 6 years, Simply Safe before that. Simply safe had a security issue on their gen 1 system but wouldn’t do anything for users on replacing it with gen 2 so I switched. With Ring I was grandfathered in at $100 per year, but it will be going up to $200 in 2025. I run the home security and a dozen cameras, so the price increase isn’t that big of a deal.

ADT is super expensive. My dad is paying them $80 per month for a basic system. I’ll be replacing his ADT with ring soon.

Every insurance carrier we represent accepts Ring & SS, I would suggest that Chubb is the exception rather than the rule

Simplisafe is completely wireless and can't use previously installed stuff. In this day and age I'm not sure why anyone would go w/ a hard wired system with all the DIY wireless options out there. I have used SimpliSafe at 4 homes and 2 offices over the years, have been very happy with it. Currently have it at my home & office, ex has it at her house, office manager at hers. You can buy an indoor basic package for less than $300 and add more sensors if needed. The outdoor basic package is under $400. I only use their alarm system, I have Ring & Blink cameras outside. Simplisafe is a late entrant in the outdoor camera market, Simplisafe is a late entrant to the camera market. I have had my Simplisafe systems for over ten years and my Ring/Blinks for about the same.

Cost is around $24.95/mo for monitoring, no contract, no install costs, uses smartphone app. You can also get it and not do the monitoring and just have it as a local alarm that'll make a racket if someone tries to break in.

For me it doesn’t matter anymore. I’m retired and was only sharing what I knew from back then. Has Chubb changed their policy?

SimpliSafe outside cameras are battery powered, But you can get the charging cord and keep them charged
Mine ran for 24 hrs during a power failure, They are also motion sensors that send you a text of movement
In side just plug in the outlet
Best part you can add at your own pace
