Specifically published ones? Or ones that have an agent?

I'm working on a book (police fiction) and I had an agent, however due to a personal situation, she's leaving the agent field and has left me up in the air. She worked by herself, not with a company, so there's no one she can forward me to.

For those that haven't tried looking for an agent...it's worse than trying to find a responsible person to babysit your child. I hated going through it the first time and I'm looking for any suggestions from someone who might be "in the know".

Thanks.

not exactly... but I can help you with info on self-publishing if you need

Thanks David, but I already checked in to that and I don't want to hawk my own book. I definately want to go the agent route. :D

Lynne,

What are the attributes that you look for in an agent for a fiction book?

I know nothing of this field, but I do know a number of authors of books about Microsoft products. Some if not all have used agents and I can ask them for names for you.

However, I don't know if agents specialize in fields such as fiction, technical, non-fiction, etc.

If it will help others help you, post your response here. Otherwise, please send your response to me in private Email.

Yes, publishers and agents both, specialize. Any of the Tech publishers most likely do not do anything else...or if they do, it's usually other "how to" books, and not fiction. Thanks for the offer tho. :D

Got the email Ross - bless you. :D

Skald - you thinking of going for it???

Lynne,

That is what I figured.

It just dawned on me that we do know someone who wrote a fiction volume and had it published. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but he never got around to writing the next two books. Richard Seltzer started out writing children's books, then wrote the fiction book and later wrote a number of technical books while we were all DECcies.

Contact him and tell him I sent you, he's a friend and lives in Boston.

Here's his contact info:
