Seems MA legal to me (10 round mags are available).

Could it be that there's not that much interest in spending that much money (cheapest I've seen on Guns America is $1,695. Highest is $3,000 [shocked]),
on a semi-auto rifle that can only legally hold 10 rounds?

Is the availability of ammo keeping buyers away?

And no, I have no real interest in one, mostly because of the price tag even if a 30-50 rd mag was MA legal.

I don't know why anyone in MA would really want one of these, due to
the fact that there are no "prebans" for it, not even "questionable" ones,
and the whole allure of the thing would be having 50 rounds on
tap. Not to mention the ammo is near unobtainium in MA, although I have
seen it at gun shows. (Apparently there are some LE types getting FiveSevens
under the guise of a LEO purchase, dodging the AGs regs, etc)

Seems like a lot of money for a semiautomatic carbine thats really only good
for killing woodchucks and the like. 5.7 x 28mm terminal performance in humans
leaves a lot to be desired. (yes, it can kill, but not even with the same level of
effectiveness as some other handgun calibers!)

What I'm more interested in is the FS-2000. That gun is now finally getting
to dealers, although theres quite a bit of overprice on it. (They're going
for 2K+, when the dealer price is like $1700 or so. )

At least that gun will take standard AR/M16/STANAG mags, which are readily
availiable as prebans.

It -should- pass MA muster, provided it is shipped with a low capacity
magazine. The FH on it is advertised by FN as a muzzle brake, at least
in their documentation. (when you look at the design, it does actually look
like a brake).

pheasant ridge has one, $1695.00
but they don't have any ammo
I emailed wolf, and they said by yr end, or so, they will be producing 5.7x28
its a cool looking little gun, but I agree, w/ no way to get 50 rd mags,
and the price of ammo, I think is definately keeping it slow

It's a rifle, so if you really wanted one you could buy one I saw in Riley's in Hooksett, NH a couple weeks ago.

Actually, if it were closer to the $800- $1,000 range I'd probably get one.
Partially for the fun gun aspect, and partially because I'm one of those pessimists that believes that there'll be another federal AWB in the not so distant future (4-6 years if not sooner).

I'd even take it a step further and pick-up a couple of 50 round mags. I have friends in NH and relatives in RI that could hold on to them for me for the day when I flee this socialist rats nest.

Looking ahead for the next few months, I'd really like to add a SIG 556 to my collection. In it's current configuration it has a butt-ugly M4 type collapsible stock and M-16A2 birdcage FS, but I'd be very surprised if SIG didn't produce a MA compliant version. Like the FS 2000, it also accepts standard USGI M-16/AR-15 mags.

MSRP is $1,300, so figure somewhere near 1k at a dealer.

I actually love the look of the 556. The F2000 is way too futuristic for me. Nothing should look like that and not lasers or something.

i'd get one of the sigs in a heart beat...love the look of it

I don't care for the M4 style collapsibe stock on it. I love the way they look on a genuine M4 or M4gery, but something about it doesn't look right on the 556
(kind'a moot point anyways since a collapsible stock wouldn't be MA legal).

And with regards to that, I found this post on Sig Forums...

"So, the obvious question for those of us in occupied territories was "Will you make a Kali-, Mass-compliant SIG556?" And the answer (yea!) was "Absolutely. We will have the capability to modify the original design to comply with your regulations (fixed stock, no flash hider, bayo lug, etc.)."

login...i agree...a fixed stock would look alot better on that gun...i believe the first run of 556's had a folding stock didnt it? well all i know is i'd only get one if it came with at least a muzzlebreak...cant stand the look of a plain barrel

Yes, the original 55x series had a skeletonized side folding stock...

The M4 collapsible stock version is the one SIG Arms displayed at the 2006 Shot Show.

From what I had read, SIG's management has been very receptive with feed-back regarding the current configuration and will probably offer alternative
stock offerings (the M-4 stock was chosen for use by SWAT and tactical types so the shooter could adjust the length when wearing body armor/heavier gear).

Others have pointed out that the since 556 uses an M-4 style buffer tube, changing it to accept an A2 style buffer tube and stock shouldn't be a problem.

Another alternative would be installing an ACE non-folding skeleton stock.

Since you mentioned the older Sig rifles, why the heck did Sig have to go
and stick all of those damned rails all over the stock?! I know, I know, it looks
all extreme and tactical [rolleyes] , but I doubt it feels good in your hand.
I guess classy lines and simple practicallity are outdated.
