Any LEO's looking for a job?

They have been looking for "lateral transfers" for some time.

Meaning, you had already have a full-time police academy.
Basicaly, they want to hire and do no training aka "something for nothing"

Someone can no longer "self-sponser" themselves for the acaedmy, a municipality must send / pay.

From the Community Advocate:
The department has now turned to an open, statewide competitive list. After the department finds its candidates, officers undergo psychological and physical evaluations. Candidates off the competitive list lack Police Academy training, so that adds more time onto the process.
Leonard hopes to find eligible candidates and enroll them in the academy by January 2006. Academy programs typically last 20 weeks, then officers undergo a 10-week, in-house field training in Marlborough, getting to know the streets.

Should have been more clear about my first post. They've been looking for these "transfers" for a while, and apparetnly* were unable to fill the needed positions. Something has kept certified PO's from other, lower paying mass departments away from this community.

Sadly, when looking in the state's computer system, 95% of municipal LEO jobs require full time academy. Sooner or later they'll run out of officers to pick and pull from other depts, and there will be a hiring bulge! Till then, its out of state searching for me....

Non-MA LEO job

I think Kittery's looking ; and they just got a new lease on life, too.

Hmmm. Closes tomorrow.

From a "Semper Gumby" to Semper Fidelis (all):
Happy Birthday, U.S. Marine Corps.

Anyone know what a LEO makes to start?

And what is the age cut-off to become a LEO?

Adam

IIRC the max age is 37 for the civil service list. Non-CS towns make their own rules.

Starting salaries range anywhere from mid-20s to mid-30s. LEOs make their money on OT and details, but that takes its toll over the long run.

www.masscops.com is a good place for info on job openings and other info. Lots of "turf" issues surface there . . . you'll see that one segment of LE doesn't like any other and vice versa.

I believe the age cutoff is 65, mandatory retirement. The age requirement was "tested" and failed. We have a 52 yr old "Rookie". If you can pass the training, you're in no matter what age (over 21).
Len's salary figures are about right and you can also add in anywhere from 5%-30% educational incentive via the Quinn Bill, modified Quinn or contract.
We have also taken transfers in the past and right now we have off the "list" in the academy.
Details are blood money. Sure some are sweet and Troopers sleeping in cruisers on the highway make things look bad. Most chiefs like the guys doing details because he can regulate the hours worked. If there were no details, many guys would work another job and the chief would have no say as long as there wasn't a conflict of interest.
