MSRP for a 2017 PVW15 was $139.97 - Retail and secondary price gougers run $500 - $800+ locally. In 2012, MSRP was probably south of $79.99 (my memory fades with advanced age). I would recommend your friend seek out local and reputable auction houses (Skinner's comes to mind) and put it up for (legal) auction. ;)

DO be careful. There are actually a number of whiskey bottle fraud cases recently. Since they assume most people are only "collecting" the bottles, and not drinking them...they just fill up crap bourbon/scotch in a bottle, and fake an old label.

You can often tell since the top cork or the label do not look "right"

just picked up another bottle. BIL came over last Thursday and we finished that bottle. Not going to sit through the storm with an empty.

Just picked up some new stuff at Costco: Berkshire Mountain (from sheffield, ma). I've never heard of them, but for a $30 bottle, it's pretty good (6-7/10) and surprisingly smooth. I think it would go better with 1 ice cube and a drop of orange bitter. I still say the Kirkland 7-yr bourbon is the best deal out there.

Maker’s Mark here. Nothing better than dropping a shot of Maker’s into a Warsteiner for a Boiler Maker.

I *like* Maker’s, but I do t love it. It’s a dirtier/thinner flavor profile than I prefer, perhaps because it’s a wheated mash bill. Much prefer the sweeter and more viscous profile of Woodford Reserve.

Or Basil. BH & WR are solid go-to's for me at $30 or whatever Total Wine gives it away for.

Bulleit has been the go-to. However, I'm just about finished with a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel - which is very good. Picked up a bottle of Elijah Craig since it was on sale. Prefer Bulleit over it.

There might be a bust, but i bet the bourbon prices do not actually dip at all.
Scotch consumption went way down starting about 4 years ago, due to bourbon's popularity. Did you see and bargain priced 12 year old scotches??? Nope! Prices remained sky high

While I hope some prices come down. To be honest I’d just like to be able to purchase some bottles at retail prices. So if the demand goes down and availability at retail goes up then I’m ok

Depends on what you want to buy. You still won’t be able to walk into a store and grab a bottle of Pappy off the shelf, even if the boom goes bust.

not bourbon related...but just a heads up. 2015 turned out to be an EXCELLENT year for red Bordeaux wine. Just bought a case to store in the basement. One knowledgeable wine monger i know said "you can pretty much grab ANY 2015 Bordeaux i have on the shelf, and be very happy with it"

so if you are grabbing a bottle of wine, keep this in mind.

Every time I shop the Natick Total Wine, there is only boring stuff on the shelf. No bourbon in the Cognac case. So where is the decent stuff?

There hasn’t been a lot of new releases in the bourbon world, lately. Also, ask someone at Customer Service. You might be surprised...

I might. I also don’t want to ask customer service every time I shop for booze.

They had some Weller Private Reserve and Stagg, Jr on the shelf today. I grabbed a bottle Weller even though I have some at home.

Sorry for not reading the 27 pages, but what's the general opinion of "1792" bourbon?

I picked up a bottle of Col. EH Taylor Small Batch today. I'd never tried it. Wow, this is fantastic sipping Bourbon!

Wanted to try something different and picked this up. 49% alcohol. Very black peppery. Without looking at reviews, the black pepper notes was obvious. Otherwise, it's a nice smooth bourbon with mainly caramel taste. $35

I grabbed a bottle of Rock Hill Farms bourbon last week to add to the collection, which is mostly collecting dust at this point.

the bourbon distilleries are all whining how trump's steel/aluminum tariffs will end up getting tariffs on bourbon being exported. However, i see it as the prices WE pay for American bourbon will go DOWN....there will be a glut of it on the market now. Woo Hoo.
