Life has been very hectic of late, no spare time and not enough time to do any of the things that need to be done. Today the better half and I decide to go and eat at one of our favorite places, The Wayside Inn in Sudbury. An hour drive through the country and upon arrival I see Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts (can't say that anymore, Scouts) doing there thing. I was an Eagle Scout and an Explorer Scout leader in my younger days.

Any way I notice most of the boys are carrying what look like some sort of "blow gun" fashioned out of a wood stock and pvc pipe. Neat. Many young families and all where having a good time. While eating I would glance a view out the window and many fond memories of yesteryear came to mind. Bubble bursting time...

As I am leaving to go outside I over hear a conversation between either an employee or volunteer (she was dressed in costume and was a door greeter) talking to a customer, like myself. "Trump must really like this, those scouts are learning to shoot. When the 2nd amendment of the constitution was written all there were was muskets..." I could tell where that was going. her tone said it all. I started to say, but bit my tongue "didn't have electricity then either".

Doubt I will be going back there again anytime soon...

don't pin the beliefs of the whole establishment on one volunteer.

I would have interjected and told her that at the time of the writing of the Constitution, there was privately held artillery (cannons) and semi-auto rifles already...and the inequity and disparity between the people and the government has only gotten worse since 1787.

That oughta go up her pipe sideways

You could point out that the Boy Scouts operate on a paramilitary command structure (uniforms, ranks, salutes, troops, patrols, etc.) and are a pre-reserve to condition youth into the military culture of obedience to command authority and that guns are part of the indoctrination.

I will go back, not soon, as I just went....my point was about 2a, not the scouts, but you are right.

Tough to survive in the modern world, in many ways. To many choices, not all good. Scouts downfall started back in the 60's rise of tv, break up of families, sports, etc.

I wish I knew how the 2a conversation started? It was just ending, the customer was leaving also. My guess the customer asked what are the scouts carrying? The vol/ emp then added her 2cents...

They don't exactly as about 2A stances on the employment application... This is .Q, of course you're going to end up with at least some antis working for you - the question is whether they're good at their job.

You would probably be hard pressed to find any sizeable restaurant in MA that does not have some ignorant anti-2a employees working for them. If it were a restaurant policy or something that would be a different matter all together.

This is pretty bad that someone who is supposed to be a historical reenactor and instructor is stepping out of character to give a personal opinion on modern politics.

Naw, Boy Scouts has been turned into nonsense. There’s probably a social justice badge, a gender fluidity badge, a peeing while sitting down badge...
If that's true, it's all on the troop leaders. My friend's troop just finished helping run a silhouette shooting competition, did a flag retiring ceremony, and will be at our band fund raiser to fold 400 US flags this Sunday.

You dont know what you're talking about. I have to assume you watch too much CNN. My boys were scouts up until a couple years ago and little has changed since I was in it 45 years ago. There are no social justice oriented merit badges, but they still have merit badges for riflery, shotguns, survival (spend the night in a shelter you made), first aid, life-saving, etc. They still camp in the rain and snow and eat their own terrible cooking. The kids carry pocket knives and swing axes.

The only real change I've noticed, besides the tents not leaking rain as much as they used to, is the procedures to protect the kids from abuse and the adults from false accusations of abuse. The adults have a buddy system where they can never be alone with a kid.

The lefties have given the Scouts enough of an image problem. Please don't make it worse.

you got to see the minute cub muster. it's held there every couple years. we were lucky enough to go in 2016. AWESOME time. full day of revolutionary reenactments, complete with british, french and colonial "camps", tons of black powder smoke and craftsmen making and selling wares from that era. the cubs get to tow a cannon into position to fire, there's a tomahawk throwing station, they are fed "revolutionary rations" for lunch and they march into battle with a drum and fife player. the guns they were all carrying are marshmallow muskets. cornstarch for powder and mini marshallows for lead. the end of the day is a glorious food fight with marshmallows flying everywhere. if you pick up enough marshmallows you can smoosh them together to make a grenade......

Should have said let’s ban the internet because that forum for free speech didn’t exist when the constitution was written either.

Should have asked her if, at the time of the writing of the 2A, the people had the exact same weapons as the police and military. And if they needed a license, background check or FA10 form.

I wish I was around your Scout troop. The one here spent most of their time talking about popcorn sales. There was a 'glamping' trip, to a park in the city limits that would have cost me over $200 for the night. Even my kids were asking, 'when do we do anything fun?'

and you should have reminded the anti that if the Minutemen didn't have equivalent firepower as the British Army we'd still be under the Crown.

Well Scouts is for both genders now. Funny how all those years they were rabidly anti gay and then they change the whole structure. I heard they had to provide condoms at some big national camporee. For the record, Eagle Scout and 10 years on our Pack’s leadership committee.

You got a cite for the arterillary being privately owned? Not questioning it, but it’s the first time I’ve heard that and would like to use it to add to my debate repertoire.

The artillery was absolutely owned by the militia and by extension privately owned, but it's easier not to look at it from that perspective but a naval one.

Merchant ships were privately owned, they needed to defend themselves on the sea, and in some cases those privately owned merchant ships were small warship escorts and/or privateers. Where did the canons come from?

Yes, it was the British effort to confiscate militia-owned artillery in Concord that started the War of Independence.

I met one of the members of the Concord Independent Battery just the other day. The Battery was established by the Massachusetts Senate on February 24, 1804 "to excite and encourage an ardent love of country, a generous public spirit, and an elevated degree of military discipline among the citizens."

How things have changed.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So, we have to ask ourselves this. Are we looking at a new generation of heroes, ready willing and able to defend this great nation ? Or are we looking at future liberals ? Those who would do their best to destroy our constitution and surrender this country to our enemies ?

Meh. People will be people.

I was driving behind a car with a Dump Trump sticker on it on the Cape yesterday. All I could do is laugh. "Just watch, ya old bat. Not only will the R's gain seats this fall, Trump will win re-election by a fair margin." That'll cause mass hysteria. I figure in 2 years when the El Presidente elections are held, and 2.5 when Trump gets re-elected, the MSM will have lost so many viewers as to make cable network consolidation a reality. CNMSNBC.
