"Banaz Mahmod, 20, was strangled with a boot lace, stuffed into a suitcase and buried in a back garden."

Too bad that they did away with the death penalty.

Sir Charles James Napier: "You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

In an entire culture that seems to have little respect for human life, and doesn't respect women in particular, why does anyone find this surprising?

I'm sure that not all Muslims share this view, but at some point, anyone that has had religious indoctrination has had these views thrust upon them in word, deed, or both.

It seems like an especially dangerous mix when that culture is mixed with western culture. This can't end well!

In what way, shape, manner or form is "British gun control" remotely relevant to this story? [rolleyes] What a pathetic attempt to stretch facts to fit a preconceived position.

Here is the real British "victory:"

The years of Banaz Mahmod's abuse were compounded by police officers who repeatedly dismissed her cries for help.

All of which has nothing to do with gun control, except to the extent she might otherwise have been shot. In short, NO change in the outcome.

Gun Control?

Maybe if she was allowed to own a gun she could have defended herself, especially since she knew her life was in danger from her relatives. How`s that for a link to gun control?

Because her father wasn't able to use a gun to kill her. According to the British theory, banning guns should pretty much eliminate murder. Just as they now feel that banning knives will solve the problem. At some point they'll get around banning shoe laces, suitcases, and gardens.

I didn't even mention that, but it's an excellent point. Since she already had asked for help from the police and they declined, she should have had the option of protecting herself.

Far better than the OP's.

Then again, moving out would have been the obvious first step.

what if applied to that totally fubared mentality mean nothing. she could probably no more get herself to move out than fly away like superman.

Quote from the story to prove my point:

Banaz Mahmod ran away from home when she was a teenager but returned when her father sent her an audio tape in which he warned he would kill her sisters, her mother and himself if she did not come home, her sister said.
