Lawblog "The Volokh Conspiracy" has posted an analysis of another new gun control bill in the US House of Representatives: H.R. 8, a bill "to require a background check for every firearm sale," filed by some jerkass Dem congressman from California. As you might expect, it doesn't just impose a background check for all firearm sales. It imposes a background check for every gun transfer, with only a few exceptions. Looks about as bad as you'd expect from a California Democrat.

Text of the bill is here.

David Kopel's analysis is here.

It won't pass at all on any level federally. Damnicrats from most states will be chopping their own nuts off by signing on.

Plus in states like Aller-bammer and Mizzury you won't get any compliance anyhow.

They aren't afraid when they have not-enough votes. And very afraid when they have them. Again, as I've said before, a SC case or two and this is all moot.

Tough call whether it would pass the house. A lot of the newly elected Dem members are not from moonbat districts. Why would they want to go on the record supporting an anti-2a bill that has no chance in hell of becoming law?

Because when you're a Democrat freshman legislator, going against the party leadership takes a LOT of guts. (Somewhat less so for Republicans, because the Republican leadership isn't as vicious as Pelosi and her goons.) Also because conservative or even centrist Democrats are pretty much a thing of the past. It's been dog's years since rank-and-file Democrats dared to break ranks with the leadership and vote centrist or conservative on anything significant. On important votes, Dem congressthings and senators vote as a bloc, period.

House passes bill expanding background checks for gun sales

The House on Tuesday passed a bill requiring background checks to be carried out on nearly every individual who purchases a firearm - marking the Democrats' first victory in tightening the nation’s gun laws since retaking control of the lower chamber of Congress.

The bill, HR 8, passed 240-190 after hours of debate and parliamentary maneuvering that saw Democrats agreeing to add an amendment to the legislation that would alert Immigration and Customs Enforcement if a person in the country illegally tried to purchase a firearm.

Another amendment to the bill, which would have exempted individuals cleared by the Transportation Security Administration’s Precheck Program from greater scrutiny when buying a gun, failed to garner enough votes for inclusion.

If passed by the Senate, Trump will veto.

It might be easy to dismiss CNN as delusional here:
The tide is turning against the NRA (Opinion) - CNN

but this is 100% propaganda. Remember the Iraqi propaganda minster? This is basically CNN. The danger is that there will be people in the US that believe it - repeat the lie enough times, that the NRA is weakening, until it becomes true.

Remember when the R led house voted to repeal Obamacare, over and over again? It happened. It just didn't matter at all because the the house is just 1 out of 3 steps to change a law. You need the Senate and the President. Or the Senate and a veto-override. Remember when the R's took over everything and actually repealed Obamacare? No? Because it never happened. The R's took over but when the votes mattered they didn't get their shit done.

So when the D's actually take over again, are they going to put up or shut up?

The Democrats don't dither like the Republicans, and they are committed to the cause of firearm prohibition for the proletariat. When they get the Senate and the White House, they will ban all semi-automatic firearms at a minimum and impose every obstacle imaginable to purchasing ammo. They know at best SCOTUS would strike down only parts of their bans, so Democrats have nothing to lose. They're after the young vote, and the young want to see firearms banned.

This is the Dems acting in bad faith against the compromises which produced the Brady Bill, and every one of them should be removed from office and thrown in jail.
