Congrats. I was there with my now-son-in-law . . . . . 10 years ago this August. His recruiter was a moron. We had zero idea what to do at MEPS. Like parking and all that. Security was very helpful. The "commander" was sort of a dink. Some hotshot Annapolis pilot chick clearly on her first big "you're in charge of this" role. She did try but she had too much hotshot pilot in her. Cute, though.
It was a long couple of months. Lackland is gonna SUCK in June.
It was a funny time. His first time on a plane. Almost passed out b/c he was trying to strain forward too much, I guess. LOL. I was shocked at how much time we had with him before he shipped out. His brother and grandmother came with us and then his mom (who had abandoned him, kinda) did show up. They were pi-iissssed at her. (The grandma and his brother.) I sat with Mom for a time. She's a D, but she actually made an effort to come out for her son and at least should have gotten recognition for it.
Funniest was when Hotshot goes around the room. Starts with me. "Who is your recruit." I tell her. She looks at him and looks back at me. "Dad?" "Not quite."
FWIW, he's Portuguese Islander so he's not. . . . . . European looking. Funny was all us pasty white folk there for him. Had the commander thrown for a loop. LOL
Proud and hard day. We missed hte hell out of him. Celebrated his 10th inMA birthday 2 months ago. My son still calls him his big brother. (Which was funny when he was in 2nd or 3rd grade and brought in his big brother to school. ROFL!!)
